Thin Ice

Very short teaser of a single I'll be releasing in the next month or two, from either a new EP or a new album. I have around 30 tracks I'll be releasing over the next few months, but haven't yet decided on formats. This is just to let you know, I'm "on it".

In Dreams - Teaser

The Model is my all time favourite piece of electronic music. It is an absolute masterpiece. 
I first heard it while listening to a little tiny radio when I was about 10, and listening to radio luxembourg under my bedclothes when I should have been asleep. 
It transfixed me, and it was a lifechanging event that sparked something inside me. If it hadn't been for "The Model", I wouldn't be a musician today.

I made this out of respect to Kraftwerk. No samples were used.

This is actually the second mix of it that i've made. I listened to the 1st ( which is at the bottom of this page ) a few days ago, and knew I could improve on it as I have better equipment now than I had then, and my mixcraft has improved.

Buzzkill

The track is called "Roswell Diner", and it's built around a 70 year old track called "Sophisticated Lady" by Russ Garcia. I heard it randomly somewhere and loved the vocals as they were so evocative of that optimistic period after WW2 when we had a very particular style of music known as "exotica", or "lounge", used in cartoons like Top Cat, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and TV shows like The addams family, Star Trek ,Bewitched etc.....It's very difficult to describe, but you know when you hear it, and the vocals in particular are very typical. . The only way I can describe it is 1950s vintage futurism. If you've played the playstation game "Fallout" you'll be kinda familiar with it. 

I loved the track so much that I wanted to put a modern spin on it and try to accentuate what I thought was great about it. 
In the course of that, it became something very different to the original but still retained that 50's feel. I then thought of something that typified 50s Americana, and for me, it was Roswell, and that whole 50s sci-fi optimism ......dreams of future jetpacks and flying cars, and the drive-in cinemas showing B movies like "attack of the 50ft aliens from Mars" while a waitress on rollerskates, chewing bubblegum, brought your burger and fries. Thus, "Roswell Diner" was born.

One of the reasons why I love this track so much is that I have the chance to give Mr.Garcia's track a second life. The original is long forgotten about, but I love the thought of restoring it and passing it on for a new generation of people to find.
Maybe in another 70 years people will find my version and do the same =)

I wish I could have sent the track to Mr. Garcia, but he sadly passed away in 2011, which I've only just found out, so I dedicate this to his memory. Rest in peace Mr. Garcia.

For those who were interested in the technical aspects.....No arpeggiators / sequencers were used. The bass was manually prohrammed as always.

Was going through my synths, looking for a starting point to a track, and played a few notes and thought "hey, that sounds like popcorn......wonder if I could remake the track".
That was about 12 hours ago.
Always loved the original, although it sounds badly dated now, and along with "The Model" by Kraftwerk, this was one of the very first tracks to inspire me. Hope I gave it a shot in the arm

If it weren't for Kraftwerks track "The Model", it's highly likely I wouldn't be making music today, so as an homage to my musical "fathers", and with the hugest respect for those guys that I finally had the honour of seeing live in 2017,  I made this cover version of their track, which is my favourite electronica track EVER. I'm a huge fan of Boards of Canada, and Roygbiv really got my attention waaaaay back when it was played on BBC radio 1's John Peel show, which I feel very lucky to have heard "live".

This is one of two alternative remixes I've done of the track. No samples used. All parts were created from scratch.
I gave it a completely different pitch and time signature to make it more my own, rather than just a straight a/b comparison
