@Knxwledge is a collage creator. A sample master whose beats sound like someone artfully flicking through a mixture of Sky Movie channel soundbites, YouTube videos and jazz breakdowns. The New Jersey native now lives out in Hollywood right in the epicentre of the West coast beat scene that classes the likes Brainfeeder as contemporaries. Amoeba Records is down the road. Chuck Strangers from Pro Era is practically his neighbour. The Alchemist pops in and out of the area to nab vinyls. It's an environment that Knx has feasted upon to the point where he's 15TB deep in hip-hop tinged instrumentals and a 12" catalogue that reaches into the thousands. But before scooping a half hour of exclusives and archive beats in this week's mix, we found out what Knx likes to put on his feet, his OCD tendencies and underrated rap groups.

Carhartt WIP fan Glen Earl Boothe, raised in New Jersey and Philadelphia and now based in Los Angeles, is better known as Knxwledge - an instrumental Hip-Hop producer with a love of Jazz, Soul, old skool Hip-Hop and modern Rap, all of which have a profound effect on his creativity. After dozens of remixes and collections of his countless tracks on Bandcamp (compiled on Leaving Records' 'Anthology' from 2013), Knxwledge has produced for the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Joey Bada$$, released several LP’s on labels like Stones Throw and All City Records and has recently collaborated with Anderson Paak as NxWorries for the LP  “Yes Lawd!”, released on Stones Throw. For Carhartt WIP radio he has now prepared an exclusive mix that consists of his very own, mostly unreleased Knxwledge material.

MADLIB MEDICINE SHOW #2: FLIGHT TO BRAZIL

This is a playlist of the things i enjoy listening to to start my morning, which is my time for external and internal self care. I like to be very selective about the frequencies i put into my ear because what you listen to influences how you go about your day. If you think about it, music can shape and shift your mood. 

These are also songs that reflect my unmatched secret romantic self (I’m truly a hopeless romantic). I always enjoy feeling free to sing and listen to songs that remind me of the love that comes in all forms.

This month Carhartt WIP Radio features a musical journey by producer, DJ and Akashik Records co-founder Ringgo Ancheta, aka Mndsgn. Raised with Gospel music at church and B-Boy culture at home in south New Jersey, he began experimenting with beat making when he was 14, before befriending fellow producer Knxwledge. The two would eventually go on to form the influential Klipmode collective.

After moving to Los Angeles, Mndsgn's music flourished, catching the attention of labels such Stones Throw and Leaving Records, who put out his albums Yawn Zen, Surface Outtakes and Body Wash. His latest project is titled Snax – a mixtape brimming with esoteric hip hop flavours and freshly cut Mndsgn remixes, and one which also serves as the debut release for his brand new label Ringgo.

About to embark upon a European tour – presented by Carhartt WIP – which will take him to Lisbon, Madrid, Cologne, Berlin, London, The Hague and Milan, we asked him to prepare a show that focuses on the releases of Akashik Records, the little DIY label he has run with his buddies Alima and Shane Sakanoi since 2015. The result is a unique, nonchalant mix of twisted contemporary electronics, driving funk, hot soul, agitating hip hop, and silky R&B.

Los Angeles based DJ, multi-instrumentalist, rapper, and music producer Madlib let his mind free wheeling and prepared a Carhartt WIP Radio show that accompanies the Medicine Show Europe Tour 2012 featuring Freddie Gibbs, J Rocc, and himself. His mix features unreleased, unheard, and exclusive Madlib material in combination with some known stuff out of his musical universe. An edgy twisted, 47 minutes long collage that melds hip hop and audio drama into one big psychedelic trip.
