XDB is also known for his outstanding technical Dj skills, his stunning 12K+ record collection and we are really thrilled to have something special made for our series.

Carhartt WIP Radio warmly welcomes Running Back records, managed by DJ Gerd Janson. Featuring releases from artists like Theo Parrish, Radio Slave, Move D, Mark E, Lil Tony, Tiger & Woods, Octo Octa, Kink and Fort Romeau among others, the label paints from a widely diverse palette of sound expanding from the deep house roots of the label started in 2002. Janson himself is foremost a renowned international DJ with a residency at Frankfurt's Robert Johnson and Berlin’s Panorama Bar. Before he devoted himself strictly to DJing he was also a noted writer for German magazines like Groove and Spex and part oft the Red Bull Music Academy. Since 2009 Janson is also one half of the duo Tuff City Kids. Together with his buddy Phillip Lauer he firstly started the project as a remix venture. Since a while the Tuff City Kids are prolific producers with releases on labels like Internasjonal, Live At Robert Johnson and Permanent Vacation. For Carhartt WIP Radio Gerd Janson now took a look at the future outcome of his very own label Running Back and prepared an exclusive up and coming megamix.

Carhartt WIP Radio June 2015: Gerd Janson - Running Back Demo Mix Radio Show

Carhartt WIP Radio says rest in peace to 50WEAPONS - the Berlin based 'techno plus' label that was formed by Modeselektor in 2005. Already from the start the game plan for 50WEAPONS was stopping business after 50 releases. Now, the label is due to close down, but has decided to go out with a royal bang. Specifically, 50WEAPONS have organised a world tour presented by Carhartt WIP that will stop in towns like Paris, Manchester, Hamburg, Montreal or New York. Furthermore they will release a limited collector's box set, consisting of eleven pieces of vinyl, and a USB device with twenty-two tracks - the last scheduled release by the label. For Carhartt WIP Radio label head honchos Modeselektor prepared a one hour good-bye show in which they tried to mix the tracks from the last couple of 50WEAPONS releases in a way that would make sense to the listener and to Modeselektor as DJs.

Carhartt WIP Radio welcomes Glasgow's finest address for musical dreams off the beaten track: Optimo Music, founded in 2009 by Keith McIvor aka JD Twitch. Originally Optimo was the name of a regular Sunday nighter at Sub Club in Glasgow, where the duo JD Twitch and JG Wilkes earnt the reputation for mixing all kinds of genres together. Since the night was suspended in 2010, both have been constantly gigging around the world while JD Twitch dedicated himself to his label, its club friendly subdivision Optimo Trax as well as many diverse projects such as the charity label Autonomous Africa. Till today Optimo Music's ramified artist line up includes old and new artists like Golden Teacher, Chris Carter,  Peter Zummo, The Twins and Sex Judas among others. For Carhartt WIP Radio, JD Twitch has compiled an all Optimo Music mix in which he tried to reflect what it is about each release that connects them to the superordinate ideal of Optimo Music.

Carhartt WIP Radio December 2015: JD Twitch - Optimo Music Radio Show

Welcome to the world of Leaving Records, founded in Los Angeles in the year 2008. The label was launched by the experimental musician/producer Matthewdavid, and visual artist/designer Jesselisa Moretti. Initially the company had a strong focus on tape releases featuring a wide and wild mixture of genres ranging from odd hip hop, experimental, psychedelic and rock to Glitch, IDM and synthpop. Their artist roster included now famed artists like Julia Holter, Sun Araw, Diva, and Ras G. Since a while Leaving also focus deeply on contemporary ambient, New Age and avant-garde celestial sounds by old and new artists like High Wolf, M. Geddes Gengras, Dntel or Laraaji. For Carhartt WIP Radio Matthewdavid compiled a Leaving Records show that mirrors his label perfectly. His mix starts with hip hop and beyond grooves full of glitch sounds and abstracts electronic tones only to melt afterwards into an ocean of ambient and New Age spheres that are made to elevate. Carhartt WIP Radio January 2016: Matthewdavid - Leaving Radio Show

To accompany the CTM festival 2016 in Berlin we feature a Carhartt WIP Radio special. The show was prepared by the artist, musician, curator and Morphine Records manager Rabih Beaini, who functions as a co-curator of this years CTM edition. His mix features music by himself as well as by CTM participants like Lena Willikens, Pauline Oliveros, Aisha Devi or Jerusalem In My Heart. The 17th edition of the Berlin based festival operates under the slogan New Geographies - a title that examines today’s rapidly collapsing borders and emerging new hybrid topographies. Beside well-established DJs and producers such as Laurel Halo, Floating Points or Kassem Mosse many artists and sound cultures are invited, that come from less familiar countries and localities.

Carhartt WIP Radio Festival Special: CTM (Berlin) mixed by Rabih Beaini

This month Carhartt WIP shades some light on Magazine records with a show by label co-owner, DJ and producer Barnt. The Cologne based artist is one of the few new faces in the global electronic music scene, whose music makes a fine distinction and turns established formulas against the grain. Beside being a DJ since 20 years he already released music on  labels like Cómeme, Mule Musiq and Hingefinger as well as Magazine, the label he established with his old North German friends Jens-Uwe Beyer and Crato in 2010. For Carhartt WIP Radio Barnt took a ride through the Magazine catalogue that consists of work by artists such as Jens-Uwe Beyer, Barnt, the super group Cologne Tape, Wolfgang Voigt, or Wendy Gondeln among others. Barnt's mix features some of their music as well as some soon to be released, new material from unknown artists for the unwritten Magazine future.

Hailing from the Netherlands and now based in Berlin, Nick Lapien (@lapien) is a DJ and producer whose sounds encapsulate delicate and detailed grooves, combined with an unwavering understanding of what makes dance floors oscillate. Perhaps best known as one half of Artefakt (@artefakt-official) alongside @cyspe (aka Robin Koek), Lapien has also enjoyed a prolific solo career, with releases on labels such as Fred P’s @soul-people-music, DVS1 ’s Mistress Records and Radio Slave’s @rekids. Although recent years have seen him focus mostly on his work with Artefakt, early 2019 saw a return to solo form for him with a stunning debut EP on cult Moroccan label Tikita (@tikitarec).

Lapien's Patterns of Perception 53 is a rhythmic excursion that journeys between deep, percussive grooves and mind expanding house-oriented reflections, both punctuated and anchored by the understated energy and momentum that he calls his own.
