Yu Su sound is definitely from another world ✨

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show places a spotlight on Rotterdam and the influential record label, store and distributor @clone-nl.

Founded by @sergeclone, Clone launched in 1992 with the EP “Coördinated Sounds & Sequences," under Serge’s moniker Orx. 

What began as a platform for Serge’s own music and his friends’ has grown into a worldwide operation, with Clone’s current roster of artists including Finland’s Aleksi Perälä, Germany’s Roman Flügel, and Legowelt from The Netherlands, as well as Detroit’s Drexciya, The Other People Place, and Der Zyklus. Under Clone Records are also several sub labels including  Basement Series, Royal Oak, and Clone Jack for Daze.

In 1995, Serge launched Clone the record store, as well as its distribution arm, which specializes in electronic music, original soundtracks, jazz, funk, and Italo disco from a variety of international labels. 

For this episode of Carhartt WIP Radio, Serge offers an insight into Clone with a mix featuring tracks from its most recent catalog, while paying tribute to the birthplace of techno – Detroit.

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show is hosted by the Kaifeng-born, London-based composer, sound artist, and DJ @yu_su.

Since releasing her debut EP Preparation for Departure in 2018, the artist has emerged as one of the most versatile producers in electronic music, whether it’s creating meditative, downtempo sounds and rich, jazz-inspired textures, or blending echoes of Chinese classical with mid-tempo house.

In 2021, Su co-founded the label @bie-records, launching it with her debut album Yellow River Blue, which was recorded during a winter tour of mainland China, and is filled with glimmering synths, dubbed-out bass, and moments of 90s trip-hop.

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show features the London-based record label @hooversound, co-founded in 2020 by musicians and long-time friends @iamsherelle and @naina_ldn. Focused on pushing the boundaries of electronic music, from hardcore jungle to cutting-edge dubstep and gqom, Hooversound has released music from the likes of Special Request and Tim Reaper, Deft, and Drumskull, as well as its founders. 

For this edition of Carhartt WIP Radio, both Sherelle and Naina have created a fast-paced mix pulsing with Hooversound’s signature energy, showcasing the wide array of artists on their roster, while hinting at some forthcoming releases.
