Performing as a DJ based in Tokyo since 2009, Atsuko's known for creating a unique musical atmosphere that combines elements of base and dub with everything from warm and float organic house tracks to smokey deep house tracks.

She is also active overseas, touring in China, Hong Kong, Manila, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. She is one of the DJs who continue to pursue the concept of dance music beyond the borders of genres.

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show welcomes the Paris-born, Tokyo-raised DJ, producer, label founder, and sound designer @alexfromtokyo.

Living in Japan for 25 years during the 80s and 90s, he had an ear to the ground for Tokyo’s thriving electronic and dance music scenes. He worked as a DJ, promoter, translator, and coordinator between Japan and the rest of the world, before launching his own label in 2002, titled world famous. 

This fall, Alex From Tokyo will be releasing Japan Vibrations Vol. 1, a compilation which in his own words, sounds like “the heartbeat of Tokyo: electric, eclectic, and always surprising.”

─ミックスの録音環境を教えてください。

青山LOOPにて、ミキサーUREI1620のTAPE OUT経由で、KORGモバイルレコーダーMR-1で録音しました。
 
 
─このミックスのコンセプト、アイデアなどを教えてください。

3月12日に青山LOOPにて行われた「DANCAHOLIC」が7周年＆最終回だったので、人生初のオープンからラストまでのロングセットにトライしました。7年間よくプレイしてきたレコード中心のセットでしたが、一晩の中でももっともフロアがDANCAHOLICらしいヴァイブスだった5〜7時間目のミックスです。このあともパーティーは6時間続きました……。
 
 
—近況と最近の活動について教えてください。

3月に"ene"からSLY MONGOOSE「Noite(Prins Thomas Diskomiks)」の12インチアナログをリリースしました。
DJ KENTと共に、Lil LouisとLouie Vegaによる15年前のヒット曲、LOU2「FREAKY」のエディットを「"20years of Strictly Rhythm" Mixed by DJ NORI & TOHRU TAKAHASHI」の3枚組CDに収録されています。

─今後の活動予定を教えてください。

昨年デビューアルバムをリリースしたPSYCHOGEM、桑田つとむに続き、今夏Force of NatureのDJ KENTによるソロユニット「The Backwoods」のデビューアルバムや、Max Essaのアルバムをリリース予定です。The Backwoods、Tiago、9dwの12インチは5月〜6月にかけて5タイトルリリース予定です。
