This, I recorded a few years ago, I'm sure there's thousands of versions of this song that are much better, but this is the best I could do on my own.

Funky Town

Sometimes, I find tracks on my computer that I recorded without a plan. Here I recorded a bit of guitar and some other instruments to have something to play sax on, but I forgot about it.  This tune has quit a lot of different sounds, so I must have spend some time on it.  It wasn't meant to be 'real music', just a bit of playing, but now that I hear it back after months, I quit like it.
What style it is? i cannot tell, can you?

I'm Going Home

I once read that you better not listen to the original when you want to make a cover version of a song. So I did record this without listening, I only had the lyrics and chords from a songbook, that I found in the public library. The instrumental melody was not in the book, but I remembered that part.
After recording I listened to the original. It seems I switched the order of some parts, but that’s not a big deal. That there was also an intro in the Simply Red version, I totally forgot. And that it was originally a Barry White song was a surprise to me, I had no idea.

This few lines of text in this tune come from the novel The pit and the pendulum, written by Edgar Allan Poe.
Was it a plan to make music with this text? No, absolutely not. I wanted some text on the music I was making, but I did not have any lyrics yet. The first thing I saw on my desk was the Selected Writings Pinguin Pocket by Edgar Allen Poe. I used the text on the page where it fell open; page 262 in the 1977 edition. The plan was to make some lyrics for it later, but I stopped working on this, so I didn't. But now, after a few years, I think, why not call it a song the way it is. So here it is, ready for the world, I hope you like it.

I discovered that I owe 2 copies of the Joe Jackson album Look Sharp. 
It seems that I must like that music, so I tried one of my favourite tracks.

A little autobiographical story about the time the Casio VL1 came out. 
I wanted it, but I couldn't afford it. Now, many years later I found one on a flea market. You can hear it on this track.

A cover of a memory. The first time I ever played guitar on a stage was with this cover song of the Dutch punk band Bleistift. I still had the cassette recording of that performance that contained only half of the song. That was my reference when I recorderd it, I still didn't have the original Bleistift recording. I did get the album a bit later, one of the Bleistift members sent it to me when I sent him my version.  This version starts acoustic and gets more electric towards the end.

Remake van de eerste cover waar ik ooit mee op het Havo podium stond. Ambition van de band Bleistift, de band van onder andere Ad van Meurs. Het bizarre was alleen dat ik het origineel niet kende, waarschijnlijk toen wel een paar keer gehoord, maar ik heb het zelf nooit in huis gehad. Maar met de technieken van tegenwoordig kon ik een van de vroegere bandleden van Bleistift vinden, en hij stuurde me de originele elpee. Hoe cool is dat?! Het origineel is nog beter dan ik durfde te hopen. Die plaat kreeg ik natuurlijk nadat ik dit al had opgenomen. Op het fotootje het belangrijkste instrument in deze opname: de Yamaha Guitalale, later komen er wat andere instrumenten bij.
