Ebo acknowledges the influence of US jazz rockers Blood Sweat & Tears and
– less obviously, perhaps – Deep Purple on this easy going mid-tempo
piece, written a few years before it was recorded, when Osibisa and
various ‘blaxploitation’ themes were hip. “I was trying to fuse rock and jazz together with highlife,” Ebo recalls. “This kind of music was ahead of its time – not very popular when we recorded it!”

The Afrosound were produced by Fruko. This is a highly sought after afro-latin Disco Fuentes 45 from Columbian group The Afrosound, covering The Chakachas ‘Fiebre en la Jungla’ with added erotic vocals! This song never appeared on any of their LP’s. 

Wganda Kenya - Tipit Heyd

Super rare Cumbia 45 originally released on Disco Fuentes, produced by that man Fruko once again. Afro-Columbian influences are strong here, and typical of the Caribbean coast area in Columbia. The track never made it onto any of their albums.

The legendary trio are one of the most well-known and most loved Brazilian exports, still regularly touring, including dates worldwide.

Most prolific during their time signed to Milestone, where they released 10 LP’s between 1979 and 1988.

Osmar Milito e Quarteto Forma - America Latina

‘America Latina’ is taken from the soundtrack to the Rede Globo soap opera "Selva De Pedra”, released on Som Livre in 1972. A cheerful, upbeat MPB song with a killer chorus drop.

Milito began his career in 1964 artists as Nara Leão, Maria Bethania, Vinicius de Morais, Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben and Elis Regina amongst others. He worked in the USA with Chico Buarque and Sergio Mendes for several years in the 70’s, also appearing alongside artists including Liza Minelli, Mark Murphy, Spanky Wilson and Sammy Davis Jr.

As sampled on Madvillain ft. M.E.D 'Raid', and featured in the Floating Points  and Fourtet Plastic People mix!

‘Gyae Su’ is a rearrangement of an older song, with a guitar concept typical of the classic Kwa or Kumasi bands and an overall tropical style. Ebo Taylor’s horn arrangements evoke the classic Afro-funk vibe that he originally made famous. The lyrics are as catchy as they are plaintive, with Thomas comforting the listener, “Don’t cry! Life has its ups and downs. Just take it easy and don’t shed any tears.”

Elegancia Tropical the third album from Bomba Estéreo is set for release via Soundway Records on February 4, 2013. 

The follow up to 2009’s Blow Up, was recorded in their native Colombia, near the coastal city of Barranquilla. Elegancia Tropical has been greeted with critical acclaim in the US - glowing reviews have come from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and the Washington Post. 

Lead singer and MC, Li Saumet’s fiery vocals are underpinned by Colombian rhythms and contemporary electronica as supplied by Julián Salazar and Kike Egurrola. Originally formed by visual artist Simón Mejía in 2005, Rolling Stone Magazine has hailed Bomba Estereo as leaders of a Latin American scene that is “fusing old school folk sounds with more modern and electronic rap style.” 

Since their debut performance at Roskilde (Denmark, 2010) Bomba Estéreo has received international acclaim for an eye popping live show, with over 250 shows in more than 100 different cities. Bomba Estéreo have performed at some of the most prestigious festivals around the world including Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lovebox.

Starting at SXSW, Bomba Estéreo will be supporting their new album with a full US tour followed by UK and European dates in April / May.
