A Meadow Calls by Garth Baxter dedicated to Carlos Boltes

Mr. Boltes was born in Santiago de Chile, where he began his musical studies learning charango from his brother, Giovanni Vaccani. Later, he joined the Chilean group, Barrocco Andino with which he made numerous recordings as well as touring widely throughout Chile and South America. He has a performance degree from the Catholic University of Chile and a Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in viola interpretation. His main teachers have been: Enrique López, Atar Arad and Larry Dutton (Emerson String Quartet). He has been principal violist of the Santiago Municipal Chamber Orchestra and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. He has recorded for Naxos, Brioso and CBS Records. In the year 2000, he formed the Duo Alturas together with Canadian guitarist, Scott Hill. In the intervening years the Duo has premiered more than 50 new works and has performed in Canada, the US, Central and South America and Europe. He has performed extensively with Andean wind specialist, Gonzalo Cortes as well as with the remarkable French pianist and singer, Alexandra Aubert, with whom he has toured Chile and the United States. Mr. Boltes has been awarded the Individual Scholarship of Artists of the Boston Fund and an Achievement Scholarship from the Andes Foundation and also received the "Latino de Oro" award from Connecticut 2010, currently Mr. Boltes is a professor at The New Old Music School in West Hartford, CT.
