En la cultura Maya el jaguar era denominado:  Balaam, Bajlum, Bolon y era símbolo de poder y fortaleza no solo para los mayas si no para muchas grandes culturas de Mesoamerica .
 Los personajes que utilizaban vestimentas de jaguar era una persona con autoridad e importancia en la sociedad
El Dios del Sol se transformaba en jaguar para poder viajar durante la noche por el mundo de los muertos.


La piel moteada de este bello felino representaba las estrellas, en muchas templos Mayas del Yucatán se representan elaboradas imágenes de jaguar.
Para los Mayas el sol jaguar dominaba la noche y el día. Al caer la tarde y durante toda la noche luchaba contra Xilbalba, el inframundo, venciéndolo y saliendo una vez más al día siguiente.
Una historia Maya dice que el final de la tierra vendrá cuando los jaguares asciendan del inframundo para devorar el sol y la luna y tal vez el universo… y un eclipse será una muestra del evento final.

Entre los pueblos mayas, este felino aludía a las tinieblas, al inframundo y al fin y principio de los tiempos.Su imponente presencia en lo profundo de las selvas del sureste mexicano debió ser lo suficientemente atemorizante como para infundir gran respeto,admiracion y darle un carácter hasta cierto punto sobrenatural. En ese mundo subterráneo del que es dueño y protagonista.


El jaguar mexicano: el felino prehispánico al borde de la extinción
Apreciado por la belleza de su pelaje, este felino se encuentra en peligro de extinción debido a la caza furtiva y el descuido de su hábitat.
Las diversas regiones naturales existentes en nuestro país han albergado una gran cantidad de especies animales cuya belleza y majestuosidad los hacen destacar por encima de otras criaturas alrededor del mundo. Desde la época prehispánica, las selvas del sureste mexicano han sido el hogar de la especie felina más atractiva del país.Sin embargo, el número de jaguares en México ha sufrido una drástica reducción durante los últimos años debido a la caza ilegal, la tala inmoderada y los incendios forestales que afectan las condiciones de su hábitat

Otro de los factores que ha contribuido a la extinción de dicho felino es el crecimiento acelerado del desarrollo urbano y los complejos hoteleros que se construyen en las zonas aledañas al ecosistema del jaguar. El riesgo para la especie  se haya en el nerviosismo de la gente que los ve merodear cerca de los hoteles, por lo que algunos optan por atacarlos, e incluso, matarlos

The Medicine Buddha Mantra calls to the Medicine Buddha to eliminate the pain of illness and suffering. The mantra is repeated several times with increasing intensity imploring the Medicine Buddha to hear and relieve the depth of suffering. It then hails the enlightenment of the Medicine Buddha and offers profound respect as the prayer is relinquished to the Medicine Buddha.

Translation:

As with any poetry, song or chant, there are many possible ways to translate the Medicine Buddha mantra. This is one way to translate the specific words literally.

OM (this is not a “word” but the intonation of the sacred vibration of the universe)

Bekhandze O Healer (of suffering)

Bekhandze O Healer (of the true cause of suffering)

Maha bekhandze O Great Healer (of subtle defilements that cause suffering)

Bekhandze Randza O King of Healing

Samudgate perfectly liberated auspicious being

Soha I offer this prayer and now relinquish it … (to you Medicine Buddha)”

This is one English version of the meaning and intent of the Mantra:

May the sentient beings that suffer across space and time

May their illness and the causes of illness be quickly removed.

And may this illness of body, speech and mind forever be gone.
