Tener una voz propia. Poseer un sonido que no deje duda sobre quién ataca el instrumento. Esas y otras cualidades definen la praxis de Alfonso André, baterista fundamental para la música contemporánea mexicana. Poseedor de un pulso inigualable y novedoso, su canto en la percusión ha sido la esencia de bandas míticas para el cuerpo de nuestro rock: Las Insólitas Imágenes de la Aurora, Caifanes, Jaguares, La Barranca.

Alfonso comenzó su carrera a mediados de los 80 al lado de Alejandro Marcovich (guitarra, voz) y Saúl Hernández (bajo, voz), en ese sueño breve pero intenso que conocimos como Las Insólitas Imágenes de Aurora, una flor extraña para épocas en que el rock aún pertenecía al inframundo subterráneo. Sin embargo, esa es la semilla con que crecerían árboles cuyas ramificaciones nos siguen acariciando el oído: Caifanes, Jaguares y La Barranca son indisolubles al álbum sónico de una generación que logró, a través de discos y conciertos, una forma real de escuchar la vida.

Alfonso André. Su afición por golpear las cosas comenzó temprano. Su hermana lo indujo a la música, concretamente a la batería, sin saber que forjaría una de las carreras más prolíficas y brillantes de la escena continental. Tras décadas de entregarse a la bataca para extraerle una música nueva, su historia personal le pide entregar cuentas. Por ello, en el contexto de este 2011 que marca el regreso de Caifanes a los escenarios a través del Vive Latino 12 y del Festival de Coachella, Alfonso no sólo está de visita por su pasado.

A inicios de este año volvió a sumergirse en su estudio, el Submarino del Aire, para producir su mejor fotografía sonora, para mirar hacia adelante. Custodiado por sus cómplices musicales le da vida a Cerro del aire, su primer disco solista y la posibilidad inaudita de dejar el sillín de la batería para tomar un lugar que le pertenece en forma natural: el micrófono, el centro de una banda.

Así, el toque de los tambores se transporta también a su muy personal acercamiento al canto. Hoy vive al borde del alumbramiento de uno de sus grandes capítulos personales. Hoy nos recuerda, a todos, que además de baquetas hay un frontman que reconoció un nuevo camino, un simple trayecto que espera caminar al lado de nuestros oídos.
