Update:

I just learned that James Horbett, whose music inspired this song, passed away last year after a courageous battle with cancer. 

His wonderful music, song craft and incredible talent will always remain an inspiration to me, but the world is a poorer place without him.

Based on a chord sequence from the song 'There's No Constant' by James Horbett, this was the first rhythm guitar song I wrote using my 12-string guitar.

Lyrically inspired by the song 'Wharf Rat' by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia, and (somewhat obviously) by the movie 'On The Waterfront'.

I was so thrilled when Janine offered to join me on a jazz standard. Her lovely, warm, sincere vocals open a whole range of songs that my caustic, detached, cynical vocals just would not do justice to. This one came to my mind right away.
I tried to give her a bit of that Nelson Riddle treatment with just enough oddness to make it mine too. Such a pleasure to work with Janine. Her personal qualities are much the same as her vocal ones. Thank you Janine!

"Someone to Watch Over Me" is a 1926 song composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, assisted by Howard Dietz who penned the title. It was written for the musical Oh, Kay! (1926), with the part originally sung on Broadway by English actress Gertrude Lawrence while holding a rag doll in a sentimental solo scene. The successful musical ran for more than 200 performances in New York and then saw equivalent acclaim in London in 1927; all with the song as its centerpiece. Lawrence released the song as a medium-tempo single which rose to number 2 on the charts in 1927

In memory of Eddie Van Halen, Rest In Peace...

In my quest for rediscovering Eddie Van Halen’s music, the music of my youth, I am choosing to make covers of the less obvious material, not the hits or typical guitar shredders choices. I prefer to explore the ones that in my view are cool songs, and also highlight Eddie talent as a songwriter. Of course making these covers pose to me the possibilities of really getting into Eddie’s unique and peculiar playing style when taking the lead. I would have loved to hear a full instrumental album from Eddie, the more so when you hear him experimenting in the studio (yes, there are some recordings where Ed and his brother are testing then new material) without the vocal parts. Songs like Girl Gone Bad are basically instrumentals with some Dave vocals added. Also most albums contain intros and instrumentals where Eddie shows us sneak peaks of his extended capabilities. Imagine a full album like that, maybe the music vault in his home studio is full of it...

Anyways, I am approaching these covers in that light, trying to play them in honor of Eddie as instrumentals, where I feel free to  use the playing style I loved and learned from him in my earliest years playing guitar. Thank you Eddie... For everything...

In New York City I played with Bands like, "King"s East", "In The Service Of", "Fist of Facts", "Desire", "Dense Undergrowth"," "Matahari", "Like Wow", "Devil's Breakfast", "Muse Mob", "Atlantis 3000", "Monster", "Zenith", "Andromeda Crash" "Night Shade", I also collaborated with Hector Zazou, Harold Budd, Elliott Levin, Dennis Charles, Tetsu Inoue, Bettina Koster. Barbara Gogan, Salvatore Principato, Thomas Truax and many others. For many years I also wrote Jingles for a lot of products like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mc Donalds, Toyota, Kodak, Payless Shoes, Rothman's, Salsa Tabasco, JC Penny, Liberty Science Center, American Heart Association, MCI, Reebok, AT&T, Fanta, Play Movil, etc, I also made music for Viacom writing music for cartoon networks, Bravo TV, Chanel 1, and MTV.
