"On his visit to Kinshasa James Brown dubbed him *Mister Dynamite*"

It has been a struggle to lay hands on Verckys, although the man doesn´t go unnoticed. Notorious for being one of Congo´s most ruthless business men, the legendary musician had build a whole imperium in Kinshasa, the capital city of the central african power house (arguably one of the toughest places in the world) and has a whole building with his name, in the very heart of the city.

So I travelled to the Congo in June of 2013 to find Verckys only to find out that he headed in opposite direction to sort out his health issues. But I did meet his manager who gave me his phone number, so I called:  "Oh Monsieur Samy, we need to met, lets talk business", he said, probably not knowing that I was an independent record label, with all it represents.  But the more I spoke to the men the more I realised that he was genuinely interested in music more then anything else. The following message I received few weeks ago, confirmed my feeling:

"Samy, I am writing to you because I´m a little worried. I´ve been thinking about your selection and I now wonder if your compilation will do well due to the fact that the chosen songs had little impact in Kinshasa. Others had much more success"
I was surprised but pleased to see that he cared about the project although I had already paid him in full. But why wouldn't he? Its his music after all.

"Most of the songs you´ve selected were recorded in Nairobi, for the Kenyan market. These songs did very well there, also in Zambia, but here in the Congo they flopped...except for "Ya Nini", that was a monster hit. Still, I am very surprised you´ve mentioned it has become a legendary track in Colombia, positively surprised"

This compilation was supposed to be released in October as a limited edition of 2000 copies, but after a few Skype chats with Verckys, seeing that he has come to terms with his health issues, and pushing for a European tour come next summer, we´ve decided to release this as Analog Africa No.17 which is now going to see light of day first week of December.

In the mean time enjoy this imperial slice of Congolese Afrobeat. "Bassala Hot" is doomed to  cast a spell on each and every dancefloor that dares to spin its bewitching sound. Beware!!!

From The Souljazz Orchestra: "Kossa Kossa" was inspired by late 70s/early 80s West African disco and boogie music.  "Kossa" was initially a type of Duala dance in  Cameroon, which later became "Makossa", the style popularized by Manu Dibango, but we really flipped the genre around and made it our own.  It's probably the Souljazz tune with the most "electronic" elements ever, since we used an old analog monosynth and a Roland 808 drum machine for the first time, along with our usual acoustic instruments."

From TIMEKODE: "For this song we really picked up the tempo a lot from the original to take it from the disco/boogie world and give it more of a house / broken-beat feeling.  We also brought the full palette of sampled and synthesized drums and bass to give the SJO a boom and rattle that only drum machines can provide. Leaning heavily on the original parts, this remix takes the song and the listener on a journey from a club in West Africa on a Saturday night circ. 1976, to an after-hours in the UK on Sunday morning circ. 2016, and back."

The journey of the Neverest saga is about to get so much more interesting and exciting with our fellow climber Rory Gallagher delivering 2 astonishing originals - 'The Brain' and 'Ultimatum” - which are beautifully arranged with melodic elements and deep grooves, fitting perfectly into the club atmosphere of the modern underground generation. 

Two remixes by Danito & Athina and Julian Wassermann are included.

First up, 'The Brain”, hypnotizes and spills out amazing melodies which digs deep into our soul and heart. We are unbelievably happy to have scored a Danito & Athina remix who have given their very own interpretation into the mix, with more energy, more growling bass and drive to it.

His second track, “Ultimatum', amazes with an outstanding and unique bass line which carries you through the whole track and is accompanied by the always evolving arp, bringing you a groovy dance floor hit.

The Julian Wassermann remix gives this track a special boost of energy with a very distinctive string pad that emphasizes a dramatic approach to the ultimatum. Stunning!

01.Les Pensées

THE STORY 



 Born unexpected, in a night with full moon, under a strange sign.
 A dancing Creole mother and a Sakalava father with big ears gave life to a funny pair of twins, between some palmtrees and a gramophone...

 The parents called the girl Kick and the boy Snare.
Their first word was: ''beat''.
and their first wonder: ''mama what is head-nodding?''

 So, the Kick and the Snare had the dream to travel the world and collect traditional recordings. So they did.
From Peruvian and Colombian mountains to the neighbourhoods of New Orleans and Harlem. And from Jamaican and Brazilian coasts to the rivers of Nigeria and Angola.
But that was not enough for them. They also travelled in time. From the early 1930's Swing era to the late 1970's Hip Hop and from the 1960's Chicha, Funk and Reggae to 1990's D'n'B.

 And then came a time when the Kick and the Snare got tired...and decided to seal all these records in a box, with the inscription:     ''The Carnibal Records'', and threw it in the ocean...

 The box was floating around the world for many years, until a mighty pirate called Spikos found it somewhere between the islands of Syros and Amorgos and trade it for a pink hat and 2 kilos of shrimps. 

 The box got unsealed by these two oddly monikered fishermen called 
Palov & Panama Cardoon. 
 Luckily the sea had shuffled the traditional sounds with the modern beats. They looked each other and their surpise came with the idea of releasing all these strange sounds.

 The year was 2012... and it was a nice year.
