In March, barely six months since its initial release, following tours with friend and sonic sister figure Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab) and one time backing band Black Rivers (two thirds of Doves), Jane will release an expanded edition of The Silver Globe - including a second full-length disc called The Amber Light which follows the original LP with the same dedication and adventurous zeal as its much loved synth driven sister record. With a title that alludes to the toils of trepidation and a running theme of industrial procreativity and DIY handy craft, The Amber Light carves a niche between new age motivational music, radiophonic folk and snarling krautrock echoing the kosmische stylings of The Silver Globe with the punk urgency of 80s domestic-synth pop. Featuring four brand new songs, three exclusive instrumental themes (including a commissioned theme from an American vampire film) and three new collaborative re-workings/duets based on tracks from The Silver Globe, this extensive package harbours work from Tom Furse (The Horrors), Andy Votel, Suzanne Ciani, members of Demdike Stare and original Silver Globe inhabitant Pete J. Phillipson. Substantiated by other extra format editions, including a silver vinyl version of The Silver Globe, a series of compact cassettes and a single release of standout robotic roller rink track Don’t Take My Soul (presented digitally as well as a split single with Bird Records label mate Tender Prey) Jane’s expanded Silver Globe/Amber Light project reciprocates the positive energy shared by her loyal readership and a wide host of new converts who have allowed Jane’s self-sufficient songs and synthetic soundscapes to flourish on he cusp of 2014/2015. Showing little signs of slowing down, Jane Weaver alongside her Bird Records family looks set for an airborne year. The Silver Globe is still turning and catching many a siege in its electric rays.

Bobbi's Second World, written with the addition of a new member on keys, exhibits an explosion of new sounds and ideas that came to fruition after a long summer of playing festivals and taking inspiration from music that made us dance. It centres around the story of a cat named Bobbi who, in order to become a lady, has to experience the extremities of two complex and differing realities- situated in her front and back gardens respectively. The eccentric instrumentation, influenced by northern soul, post-punk and funk music, matches the quirkiness of the lyrics to create a song that concerns a young cats maturity whilst displaying a certain maturity in the music itself.

Chicago songwriter and guitarist James Elkington—who has collaborated with everyone from Richard Thompson to Jeff Tweedy to Tortoise—recorded his sophomore album at Wilco’s Loft, expanding upon his celebrated 2017 debut Wintres Woma (PoB-034) as well as his recent production and arrangement work for the likes of Steve Gunn, Nap Eyes, and Joan Shelley. Casting glances back to British folk traditions as well as toward avant-garde horizons, these brilliant new songs, as accessible as they are arcane, buttress Elkington’s brisk guitar figures and baritone poesy with strings, woodwinds, and backing vocals by Tamara Lindeman of the Weather Station.

9/10 (Album of the Month). The triumph that Wintres Woma hinted at ... his richest, most complete effort yet. What immediately sets the record apart from many of its counterparts, even from Elkington’s debut, is its swing. An outstanding record from a humble collaborator, a leisurely developer, a man forever caught somewhere between Chorleywood and Chicago.

Elkington's music strikes a warm traditional tone, with echoes of Pentangle in his agile playing, his warm vocal tone, and the half-blues, half-traditional British tenor of his songs... Wintres Woma in 2018 and now Ever-Roving Eye [are] both warm and gorgeous, studded with striking lyrical imagery, arresting melodies and intriguing musical intervals.

Elkington’s guitar chops are such that he has done session work for Richard Thompson, among others, and his intricate acoustic fingerpicking underpins these sturdy songs, as do subtle melodies built to last.

Like Wintres Woma, the album is rooted in elegant folk with mesmerizing fingerpicked guitar and leans on Elkington’s expressive, dusky baritone. Songs like the subverted Laurel Canyon-styled pop of “Leopards Lay Down” reveal cryptic but compelling flashes of Elkington’s dark wit. Overall, however, the songs on Ever-Roving Eye are more hot-blooded and propulsive.

“In a dark tunnel underground, a nameless laborer tries to move an immovable burden.” That’s how director Ryan Hart describes the imagery in the video he made for Mute Duo’s twangy bruiser “Red-Winged Blackbirds.” A meditation on grief, trauma, and perseverance, Hart’s video considers the Sisyphus myth, mutating the fatalist cynicism into something open-ended, if not overtly hopeful, backgrounded by sun-soaked, droning pedal steel and propulsive, sublime rhythms.

For me this song is dramatizing and honoring the thought life of what you might call a typical, mundane day. I’ve been thinking about the importance of perspective. There’s this warmth and importance and life that can be experienced every day in my mind. Not saying I’ve arrived at all, but I’m learning - and this song captures some of that. Musically, I started with frozen darting violin sounds. I wanted to create this beautifully icy melody and then fill it in with warm ambience to surround it.

This is the first single off my upcoming 4 track EP 'Latent' due out in March.

Hope it blesses, challenges, and brings peace to you :)
