Recording this song is the culmination of a 22 year journey. I first learned a version, I've since heard a few versions, sitting around a campfire, under a twinkling starry sky, deep in the hinterland of Northern NSW, in my early days of my tree/sea change from the big city. 

It has been by far, my most requested song. 

After the Goddess Yemanja, the Orishas goddess of the seas, appeared to me at sunrise on New Year’s Day 2020, on a beach in Bahia in Northern Brazil, I was set upon a path to finally record it. 

This magical song, with lyrical imagery transporting the listener to those mystical enchanted realms, deserved a magical production, and I called in some extremely talented creatives, to birth it into being. 

One of the most wonderful things about exploring music as an art form, are the amazingly talented humans, with whom I have the absolute humbling honour, of collaborating.

Shai Shriki is a third generation Oud player and multi instrumentalist, from Israel of Moroccan heritage, now based in Byron Bay, Northern NSW. Shai plays many styles of world music as a solo artist, with his band, and as a session musician for many other artists. Shai’s ability to evoke emotion through sound is always captivating, across deep soulful ballads to high energy dance tracks.

Singer, song-writer, Juman, has a uniquely beguiling vocal style, influenced by Neo Soul, Jazz and Funk. Her musical expression garners inspiration from the natural world, her middle eastern ancestry and her urban upbringing. She has shared in many musical projects and collaborations. Melbourne born, and until recently based, the songstress now resides in Northern NSW, spending her days conjuring music from her forest home.

Avishai Barnatan is a multi instrumentalist, sound therapist and producer. He has been involved with live music and recording since the mid 90’s, playing and producing, with different projects, mainly as a part of the internationally acclaimed phenomena, Israeli world fusion band, Sheva.

Since then Avishai has created, composed, produced/co-produced various albums, collaborating with many artists. 

Avishai has gained a wealth of experience working intimately with other artists and bands helping facilitate the creative recording process aimed at best capturing their music. This process varies from song to song and project to project and may include: arranging, composing, developing rhythm and string sections (bass and string lines/arrangements, percussion ideas etc), selecting suitable instrumentation and capturing the best performance of the instruments and vocals. 

As a producer he aims to bring out the “best” of his artists’ talents in the production of their music and songs. He is very open to any style of music and loves fusing different elements, approaching each project as a unique creation. He now works from his home based studio in the Byron Bay hinterland.

Music Producer, Audio Engineer and Musician, Pete Robinson,  of Motiv Music, cut his teeth as an Electronic Music producer in the nineties, writing techno and drum and bass, and exploring many other styles since. In the early 2000s, he began working as an audio engineer, built and ran a recording studio in Byron Bay, working as a Recording and Mastering Engineer.
