How far would you go? Is it possible you could see the whole world in your backyard?  What will happen to our earth in the next 80 years? What will happen to us?  Jim O’Donnell has devoted his entire professional career to exploring these questions and more. In this interview, Jim reminds us that the earth will survive. He points out that the real problem is how we will survive as human beings?  “It’s our choice,” he says.  “Will we rise into our positive potential, or will we descend into fearful antagonism?” What do you think?  I recorded this conversation with Jim on a warm June day while we were sitting under a gazebo at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, NM.

Beehan’s “Bloody Haircuts” was penned over 28 years ago in Berlin, although it is as timely now as it was back then. It is not about hairdressers but rather Skinheads and neo-fascism. “Right here, right now it’s back,” she notes.

Beehan adds, “The first concert (on arriving in London) I attended was in 1979. It was The Specials at Lewisham Odeon in London. The support acts were The Selecter and Dexys Midnight Runners. What left me stunned and confused, was observing from the front-row back, lines of skinheads, frenzied, dancing to the music and scuffling. Between songs, they were chanting Seig Heil and saluting Nazi-style, gobbing and abusing the musicians. The musicians, the groundbreakers of Ska/2-Tone, played on, stayed patient and kept asking for the tension to cool down.”

Bloody Haircuts

Composed and recorded by Carrie Beehan and Warner Poland in 1995-96 in Berlin, Germany. This track was on a demo for Berlin BMG, they ended up not taking it for the eponymous Tryst/Tryst Album released BMG/Universal 1998 (https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/trystette3) but this lush trip-hop song has come out of the vaults with a fresh mastering from New York's expert Robert L. Smith of Defy Recordings based in Hells Kitchen.
