Note In The Darkness

Many artist can't always express in words. I mumble a lot and many artists I know do as well. This represents how we want to say something but our brain hacks at that beauty either because of learned experiences or biology, yet we can still figure out a way to express our thoughts and pain through other means whether it be in painting, sculpting, photography, dance and no joke miming. 

The image is a photo I took two weeks ago while on Vancouver Island BC. I am having a lot of anxiety about the arrival of my first child in June. I fear that I may mess her up, or the world is going to be cruel to her because of her sex or whatever will happen in the next couple of decades. I saw this deeply knotted root system and it reminded me of how I came to be what I am since childhood. The mumbling and the low self esteem that I have barely surpassed on a few months ago. 

I have always thought tree roots are the most beautiful things in the living world. The shifting over long periods of time a almost rock hard living matter that is dynamic indicating years of the trees existence and adaptation to live. Trees are amazing and represent a symbol of life and death to me. So yes all that and then some in this piece. Please let me know what you think and what you hate or like about it.

Mumbling

I found out not that long ago that I will be having a little one. I am great with kids and I love their playfulness. My friends 4 year old has the mightiest and hilarious personality that I admire and want to attain as easily as she does. 

I feel this piece does a number of things to create that feeling as above mentioned. Playful, silly with a combo of world vocals oddly working with the Blues and steel string riffs that bring together a goofy joy. This is my rough draft and is still being worked on. 

The picture is of my small Chipompom that I found last year at two months old stranded in a farmtown outside of Portland. She like the aforementioned 4 year old are very similar in personality and have met and created some odd, cute and especially funny mischief.

Sassafras

The Ocean in the pacific NW helps me process heavy thoughts and feelings. The piano reminds me of this and I love the bass.

Simple and to the point driving and yet calm. This is a rough draft and I am open to feedback so tell me what ye like and hate.
