Sitting down to my fifth pie and pint of the week, I realised that something must change.
There’s an unnerving feeling that you get when you know that you are digging your own grave.
Deep down in the dirt, covered in the muck. Always up to something, never up to much.
They know my name there, you know? There’s no shame in there, you know?

Is this the time to discard bases?
Lose ourselves in separate places?
Drown in seas of strangers faces?
All these changes.

And as the old gents left and they drew the curtains, suds fell flatter and I flatter still.
Past pride and dignity, there is just, still, one more bitter pill.
Deep down in the depths, I stop to catch my breath. I jump up on my feet. It is never safe to rest.
They’ve seen it all in there, you know? From brown to blue, to green to blow.

And down South’s a million miles away, from pot banks and pits and men of clay.
I fear it’s true, what they all say, “you are free to leave but you will always stay.”

Between the Oak and the Oatcake Shop, is where I stop to cut my cloth.
They say it’s true, we know it’s not, you can always twist on what you’ve got.

Gaze at moon and start to trot, to chippy’s fryers, spitting hot.
To poultry packaged perfectly, I drift across an endless sea.

“The Planes”, is a gorgeously twinkly retro gem that instantly pleases on the ear with its silky-smooth
layers of haunting psychedelic harmonies and fuzzy guitar leads. There’s a crisp organic sound
encasing the track as stunning streams of consciousness collide in shimmering audio gold.
Recorded in a farmhouse in the English countryside, “The Walls” brings Holly full circle from her
previous Los Angeles recorded album. Finely crafted arrangements, sonic musings, and playful
themes take us on a journey with Holly as she deconstructs her Brit Pop and classic influences and

reassembles them into progressive-folk wonderment. 

On “The Walls”, Holly said, “This album sits within a sense of place. As a songwriter, I can only speak
of my own thoughts of home and belonging. I suppose this record is a wandering eye over the fleeting
moments from the last few years, of when I felt at home, and when I didn’t. When I felt like the walls
were tumbling, when they kept me safe, and when they became my prison. I learned the only way of

breaking these patterns, was to let people step over the threshold.

This tune is a reminder and a plea. Our current economic climate doesn't make it easy for all to step outside and breathe, take notice of the small things and reliece the pressures that exist in our individual worlds. How wild swimming and standing by trees can regulate our vagus nerve, grounding us in our nervous system allowing us to connect with each other, relax. So it's a reminder, that even if accesss is hard, and housing is hard, and everything is hard, get a bit of fresh air, fresh water, when you can, find a plant, even in the most concrete of landscapes there is always a bit of life.

Part of the lyrics translates as -
The color of the world is twilight, and is getting darker. In an age where it is easier to imagine dystopia than a hopeful future this song really touched on some of what I was feeling whilst writing 'staring at the grain'.
