Seattle-based, Mother Love Bone was a pioneering band in the music scene of the late 80’s and 90’s.  Established in 1988 by ex-Green River members Jeff Ament, Bruce Fairweather and Stone Gossard, ex-Malfunkshun frontman Andrew Wood and ex-Ten Minute Warning and Skin Yard drummer Greg Gilmore, they quickly became one of Seattle’s most promising bands.  Mother Love Bone released one E.P. Shine in March of 1989 to wide critical acclaim. A year later on March 16, 1990, days before their debut album Apple was to be released, Andrew Wood suffered a heroin overdose and died 3 days later. This ended the future of the band’s success, but not influence. After Wood’s death, Ament and Gossard paired with Wood’s former roommate Chris Cornell for the tribute group Temple of The Dog (named after lyric in Wood’s song).  Gossard and Ament would go on to join other Temple of the Dog members, Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready to form Pearl Jam.  David Browne of The New York Times wrote that "Apple may be one of the first great hard-rock records of the 90s" and that "Wood could have been the first of the big-league Seattle rock stars."
