Thanks for being here to listen to this special mix, this one comes right from the heart and I can barely keep from breaking down while I write this. TW sexual assault and violence.

I made this mix in the middle of my Asia tour, amidst news of two brutal rape and murder cases in India the past days. So much pain and anger fills me with this news, the brutality and lack of action is outrageous. While I'm grateful to be living in safer places most of my life, no place is really safe for FLINTA people all over the world. I didn't understand why there was a knot in my throat and tears well up in my eyes every time I read related news, until I read something earlier today that states the deep reaction women feel about news of violence with other women is because it builds trauma within us, fear at our core that the news could have been about us or a loved one.

This mix is primarily FLINTA producers as an ode to all those who have been victims...you didn't ask for it and you didn't deserve it 💔 It's an ode to minorities who take micro aggressions in their stride because they happen all the time, and keep looking over their back fearing for their safety everyday...it’s an ode to people all over the world who brave through everyday just to survive when other humans play power games to feed their ego and destroy lives.

My hope is that we as the people embodying the spirit of resistance in the music culture we are part of, stand up for those less privileged than us. I urge the men around us for your allyship not just as words but in action to make the world a safe place for everyone to exist.

ZADONSKY - Kyiv based DJ - specializing in hypnotic techno, honing his sound for over 3 years. Inspired by the surroundings, he searched for the own musical style. After the full-scale invasion began, his desire to inspire people with music grew exponentially. Zadonsky believes that even in the darkest times, there is a place for peace found in his sets.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝙕𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙆𝙔: My very first gig was at Keller Bar on 30.12.2021. New Year's pre-party. It was very nervous and at the same time I was shining like a star because all my friends and friends of friends came and I got incredible energy and support from them. Careful mixing, full concentration and dedication. But then came the war, and my career ended until January 2023, when I played at the Oxygen party, after which I started to be heard and recognized, invited to various big events.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Why did you choose electronic music for yourself? What is special about it?
𝙕𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙆𝙔: It's actually a very interesting story, because I was introduced to electronic music as a child, when my favorite movie instead of cartoons was the Blade trilogy. New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel remix), Massive Attack, The Roots & BT all influenced the development of my musical taste. Also, my dad once told a joke at a family party, when he put on some Kazantip and I beat my hands on the table to the rhythm, that I would become a DJ, but it turned out not to be a joke.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What are the biggest challenges in organizing events in Ukraine in 2024?
𝙕𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙆𝙔: The biggest problem in this, of course, is the ruzzians. The lack of electricity, a lot of different problems related to that, and the financial issue, in my opinion, are the biggest problems in organizing events, and also the uniqueness, because there are a lot of parties now, but the quality and innovation are a little bit below expectations.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Can you name three of your favorite spots in Kyiv?
𝙕𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙆𝙔: Of course K41 and especially the Keller Bar. These places had a very big influence on me, first of all as a person and as a DJ, because there I listened to the best DJs and learned from the best DJs.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Any special plans and goals for the near future?
𝙕𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙆𝙔: I really want to play Ukrainian stuff in Europe, so bookers, if you're reading this - I'm open for booking. And I really want to start writing my own music, spending time not on work, but on writing tracks and studying, because every day I try to learn something new. There are no limits for me because development has no limits and you can always learn something new.

Originally from Odesa, he has been sharing his knowledge, experience and impeccable techno selections with crowds across Ukraine, eventually becoming a resident of @veselka_kyiv and a legendary figure of the Kyiv underground scene. 
Now based in Berlin, Ruslan Mays is pushing for the Ukrainian spirit and Ukrainian mindset with his talent and passion for techno.

GAEL - DJ and producer from Dagestan - has redefined electronic music and traveled from Kyiv and Odesa to Berlin. Their performances combine remarkable energy, style and attitude on the fringes of techno and experimental electronic music, captivating audiences at venues such as Berghain, K41 and festivals such as CTM. GAEL's innovative releases on labels such as BITE Records and Standard Deviation are pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝙂𝘼𝙀𝙇: It was definitely on the planet Earth maybe 8 years ago, that’s all I remember.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Electronic Dance Music - what does it mean to you?
𝙂𝘼𝙀𝙇: Music made with electronic instruments that you can dance to.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: shemovesshe - your alias for experimental music. Is there more GAEL or shemovesshe in your mind and your soul?
𝙂𝘼𝙀𝙇: Right now, I’m focusing more on GAEL, but I’m going to balance it in the near future. In my mind and soul they are definitely equal. And for me, GAEL is also quite an experimental project from a certain perspective.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Movies, commercials, dancefloors - are there any musical boundaries for you?
𝙂𝘼𝙀𝙇: Maybe they should be:) But it’s all interesting, I like to look at music and its reflections from different angles. For example, these days I miss playing in a band and writing songs. I also dream of working with an orchestra or making music for a dance performance one day.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What can we expect from you in the next time?
𝙂𝘼𝙀𝙇: Next month another vinyl compilation release with a track made together with my friend Tim (Jolly), alongside Under Black Helmet and Florian Meindl. Also excited about my very new project - collab with my girlfriend Niki. It's very inspiring and interesting.

First up for ∄ 5th Anniversary Countdown is a vinyl techno set by Vitalii Shevchenko. Here, the artist reveals the lighter side of this genre, while remaining true to his unique style. 

Since starting his career in 2013, Vitalii has been a driving force in Kyiv’s underground scene and has been featured on labels like Krill Music, OBSCURA, Rudiment, SREZ, and VORTEX. His meticulousness and attention to detail make his music sophisticated. Meanwhile, the complexity of the resident's sound is the result of his sincere devotion to vinyl digging.
