La techno è un genere musicale appartenente alla Electronic Dance Music (EDM) ed a sua volta è diviso in innumerevoli sottogeneri, a seconda di caratteristiche di tipo ritmico, melodico, sonoro.Negli anni '90 quando la musica elettronica da ballo arriva in Europa con il fenomeno londinese della acid house, quello della hardcore in Olanda, e quando dagli Stati Uniti incominciano ad arrivare produzioni da ballo molto morbide e di chiara matrice funk, il nome techno viene incominciato ad essere usato per definire, rispetto a quello di house, produzioni più aggressive e violente, in linea con la produzione di label come la belga Bonzai, che fa da padrone della scena per tutti i primi anni Novanta.

Bisognerà aspettare la fine degli anni Novanta, quando le produzioni dance più violente incominceranno ad essere chiamate tramite definizioni di sottocategoria (Trance, Hardstyle, Hardcore, Progressive) e solo allora techno ritorna la definizione usata per definire la musica elettronica da ballo totalmente indipendente dalle scene musicali black come il funk o la disco, esattamente come si definiva la scena madre della Detroit anni Ottanta. Con i Prodigy, band inglese che si impone sul mercato globale come vera e propria band techno tra il 1994 ed il 1998, i critici musicali dell'ambito rock realizzano quanto forte sia il legame tra questa musica e la loro e cercano di appropriarsi intellettualmente della techno coniando, per esempio, il termine post-rock, termine nel quale rientrano band quasi esclusivamente techno come i Prodigy, Chemical Brothers ed altre.

Community is overrated, but only because everything in the world is overrated. The sprawling, spewing morass known as The Internet takes the blame.
This compilation is a ping-pong of slow burns and quick freezes, creative enticements that celebrate imagination, effort, and courage. The Internet takes the blame here, as well.
There's good and bad in the puerility of the sugar-shocked, and the vulgarity of the whiskey-woozy. A self-deprecating shake of the head or the haughty crossing of arms. There's a time and a place. Flaws can, and do, flow. 
Feeling a little disjointed? Don't you wish you did?
Exercise for the mind time: Imagine a shepherd tending to his flock by day and waking to discover every single sheep dead from prussic acid poisoning. Now imagine being the shepherd. Now imagine being one of the sheep. Having some difficulties? Listen to these songs and then try again, going as you wish from role to role. The point is not exactly what you feel as either sheep or shepherd, but that you are feeling in the first place. (The tidiest scenario I concocted was that involving myself as the shepherd overjoyed that they will no longer have to watch over dirty wool and anticipating the day I no longer suffer the auditory hallucinations brought on by their incessant baas.)
On or off the computer, the world is a cherry-picking pit with passion, intelligence and talent practically starving due to neglect. This album is a multi-course meal served out of order, but oh well, it's a goddamn sensory assault, it tastes good at best, interesting at worst, and everyone involved--from preparation to consumption--can be said to have lived just a little bit extra.
