Murmuration Records head straight for the shadows with a savage double hitter from Serbian producer OMNEUM. The release is all edge, no filler; built for the late ones, the deep ones, the locked-in sessions.

Known for his precision engineering and slick, cerebral sound design, OMNEUM’s style sits right in the crosshairs of modern Neurofunk and minimalist tech. It’s tight, cold, and absolutely relentless.

‘Consecration’ leads with full intent; razor drums, hulking subs, and mechanised atmospherics all driving one serious warehouse groove. Straight pressure. On the flip, ‘Ghosts’ dials things back to the bone. Spacious, surgical, and dripping with menace. Less is more, and this one proves it.

Murmuration is doing what they do best: pushing heavyweight, intelligent Drum & Bass straight from the shadows to the floor. Grab it, rinse it, reload it.

Standing atop a cliffside and astride a confluence of two major rivers, the castle, which had once stood as a bastion to protect the kingdom’s heartlands, had now fallen into ruin & disrepair. Stones crumbled and tumbled from its parapets, gathering in the piles of rubble that now lay strewn about the courtyard. No human had set foot inside the place in decades, not since the failed rebellion of the castle’s last lord. Long besieged by the loyalist forces of the king, the disgraced lord had turned to dark magics to fend off the final assault, sacrificing the lives of seven of his knights for unnatural aid. Though he repulsed the assault, he too had now long since perished, consumed by the great beast that now slithered through the keep in his stead.

Thus it was that the once splendorous castle had come to be avoided by all in the kingdom. Traders refused to travel the waters beneath its gaze, for fear of tales of travelers snatched by the horror that lurked within the castle walls. Nearby villages had been abandoned by the peasantry, leaving once fertile farmland fallow and threatening to throw the kingdom’s population into famine. Now, the king stood before the castle once more, flanked by his retinue of most skilled & noble knights and a levy of some one thousand soldiers, many of whom were peasants seeking to reclaim their lost homes. Yet even for all the strength of the force he had assembled, the king wondered quietly if their might would be enough - such was the fearsome & savage prowess of the HYDRA that now called the castle home.

INSTINKT makes their EATBRAIN debut with HYDRA, rallying the label’s horde under their banner as they tell the fearsome sonic tale of the seven-headed monster across the EP’s four tracks.

The first salvo of "Crossfire" hit at the beginning of last year. It was an EP that gave warning that Technique Recordings' elite unit of producers were the ones to watch for 2012. And the ubiquity of their tunes all over Radio 1, 1Xtra and Kiss, and in raves worldwide, soon proved that it wasn't a warning to be taken lightly. Now it's time to give 2013 the same treatment.

First up is "Oxygen", from heavyweight outfit 2DB, drawing in the listener with subtle arpeggios and evolving riffs, creating a warm and melodic intro to the "Crossfire" experience.  Then KG and Erb n Dub, in their Hashtag guise, switch things up with a sparser, technoid-paranoia workout in "Don't You Want Me". And proving that you can't pigeon-hole Technique, there's yet another sound on display next with a steel-reinforced VIP mix of L Plus's anthemic "Time Travel" from 2011.

Halfway through the EP, and still the variety keeps coming from the Technique team. MaxNRG drops "Grimey Beats" into the mixture, a half-speed D&B stomper that combines elements of reggae, electro and R&B with devastating consequences. Then L Plus is back for a second contribution with "End of Story", a track which takes his trademark silk-textured synths and street-hardened beats and twists them around subtle musical reference points. Then finally, 2DB come through to wrap up proceedings with "Spud Gun", a tune which rolls in under the radar before jumping out at you with a powerful assault of twenty-first century acid.

If you were anywhere within hearing distance of a bass-conscious DJ in 2012, you'll have heard a Technique Recordings release. But, even if you're late to the party, this second "Crossfire" showcase is here to demonstrate why these flavours should be on everyone's setlist.
