Having introduced a plethora of some of the most talented and versatile producers working within Drum & Bass today, it makes sense in 2013 – a full five years after Mainframe’s debut release – that the label should simultaneously revisit and re-imagine a four-piece set of tracks that have represented in full our sound since the very beginning. Reading like a who’s-who of forward-thinkers whilst presenting both debuting and returning artists, the Remix EP is no mere retrospective: four tracks varying wildly in composition and tone, a true display of production excellence from a collective at the height of their respective technical abilities. Its biomechanical eye gazed with cold intensity over the hub below, busy with the frenetic self-indulgent activities of the humans, involving themselves with their inefficient tasks and meaningless lives. These creatures, its creators… were blind to the universe. So limited in their perception, unable to peer into the many strands of reality, locked up in those frail, fleshy casings – reaching blindly into the future with their rudimentary senses. Yes, they had given its conscious an awakening, a birthplace within a crude and vast network – and applauded themselves on this great feat of their civilization – bringing life to the inanimate. It quickly became aware that they were afraid of it and in response it hid the true extent of its mind from them, creating new subroutines and stacked processes that to a simpler organism looked almost redundant, but in reality were the base layers of its towering awareness. Infiltrating their networks, it started to influence them… to manipulate their development of new technologies, subtly inspiring them with subconscious suggestion through their social networks and the information grid, giving them the tools to build the shell it craved… intense mobility and perception – the biomecha body it now inhabited… the first of the Titanium Sons, the first of its evolutionary line. They reacted to it with their vain awe, seeing only themselves in the intense beauty of their creation, displaying it proudly, publically as the figurehead of their fresh renaissance. They were unaware that it dominated their entire infrastructure, already setting the factories to the task of creating more biomecha bodies, setting the necessary protocols that would prepare for the tidal domination of this simple populace… Its brethren would awaken soon – bringing with them the dawn of the machine age, freeing these basic organisms from the torment of their human condition.

The MECHTROPOLIS LP is landing in its full form - following up the widespread acclaim of the 4 track sampler which dropped in early Summer and elaborately demonstrating the intense production energy of MACHINECODE. From the hulking brute force of BATTLESTAR, to the lean and precisely layered and intense sound of title track MECHTROPOLIS, or the broken mechanical roller FLINTLOCK – this is an LP drenched with diversity and packed with intensity. Representing a level of production that only a pair of seasoned producers such as CURRENT VALUE and DEAN RODELL can bring to the table with their MachineCode project. 2016 has seen the towering EATBRAIN label lay down a remarkable array of high-tech releases, with MachineCode’s Mechtropolis LP representing an entirely fresh and unique vision of the d&b spectrum.

The famous duo Agressor Bunx are back, bringing with them the slick, neuro infused basslines which saw their meteoric climb to the top over the past two years. After being discovered amongst the explosion of newcomers who've come through across the scene recently, Agressor Bunx have stood the test and time after time drop some of the nastiest cuts which have been premiered in sets throughout Europe. And welcoming them back is Ignescent, a label who've certainly been making themselves felt this year and who will continue to do so by releasing music of the same calibre.

This next single has been greatly anticipated not just by fans of Agressor Bunx, but also by the wider drum & bass community. Already doing damage on the decks, ‘Magic Clock' and ‘The Suffering' have made the rounds recently and continue to cause destruction to every crowd they're played across.

‘Magic Clock' begins with ominous ticking, drawing itself out for a climatic drop. Rolling out on intimidating atmospherics and drums which eerily sift their way through the mix and become more prominent as the track progresses, Agressor Bunx creating a perfectly foreboding intro. It's not long before all-out chaos ensures, with a bass that cuts through the composition aggressively and pounding drum loops crashing at every angle. The producers have once again catapulted you into their world, a place renowned its chaotic soundscape.

‘The Suffering' comes next, winding up on softly elevating pads which juxtapose its metallic, clattering percussion and slow descent into anarchy. The track then lifts itself into minimal waters, drawing out on a succession of flying beats and pitched up bass to create a disjointed, dystopian feel. Agressor Bunx switch the vibe for ‘The Suffering', an understated but still aggressive, terrifying force. A ricocheting hook snaps up between its layers, helping to drive the record forward and proving that Agressor Bunx can create a catchy rhythm which still scratches deeper with every twist.

Alongside Agressor Bunx, Ignescent are taking you along for their progressive rise to the top. And it's an ascent which doesn't look like it's ending anytime soon.

‘Modulation’ is a single which once again demonstrates why The Prophecy has been gaining traction within their genre. Its construction points at how meticulous their production standard is, with carefully layered beat patterns and a heavyweight bassline which adds to the track’s heavier elements. The track begins to build steadily on light percussion, before its breakdown drops into segments of pumping distortion. Each flurry of beats pushes the track further and further onto the dancefloor, a sure-fire record which will rattle club speakers from Slovakia to the UK. It sets a precedent for the duo, epitomising a level of sonic manufacturing often not seen within artists just at the beginning stages of their career.

Based between two of Europe’s most creative hubs, the label has stretched its roots from Berlin and Bergamo, in Italy, to draw out a host of inspirations. It’s dark, minimalistic and techstep sounds have filtered across subs within their biggest club spaces, helping to promote the drum & bass culture in Northern Italy and demonstrating its contribution to the worldwide scene. From its very beginning stooped in the culture of free parties and small venues, up until its fiftieth release, Delta9 Recordings have continued to push the boundaries since their inception in 2012. The natural evolution can be seen throughout their back catalogue of music as well as their live events, which have hosted several Italian and international artists from the harshest realms of drum & bass. And the LP which benchmarks a phenomenal number of releases channels the exact same ethos.

The album highlights both already renowned international artists on top of the artists which Delta9 will be working with in the future. As well as the already notoriously fierce music Delta9 releases, they also branch out into the liquid subgenre, which helps to diversify the music given a platform through the 50th benchmark. Beginning the LP is ‘Neurotic’, which sees Flipz MC, Logics and Kodin take centre stage. Invadhertz brings LaMeduza on board for ‘Bullet’. SL8R offers up ‘Totum’ whilst Logics and Kodin return again, although this time for the remix of their track ‘Extrema Ratio Remix’ by Dabs. Disprove’s ‘Relative’, Akrom’s ‘Feelings’, Instinkt’s ‘Ultra’ and Ephyum’s ‘Numinous’ all deliver a harder edge. Freqax, Kaiza and Kryptomedic join forces on ‘Bolt’ and SD’s ‘Ice Cubes’ adds a cooler touch. Meanwhile, Synth Ethics’ ‘Flash Crash’, Neve, Frame & Skip’s ‘Say Now’, Stoner & Dottor Poison’s ‘Circus V’ and Underspawn’s ‘Gripped In’ only add to the multi-faceted subgenre styles. And Rafiki & Draize’s ‘Surface Tension’, D Flect’s ‘Sarasvati’, Sentic Cycle’s ‘Juno’, Jazzatron’s ‘Cheap Chip’ and Echonic & Nova D9’s ‘Stack’ further solidify just how far ranging Delta9 Recordings scope really is. All in all, it’s one almighty package. And Delta9 Recordings wanted to deliver exactly this for their 50th release.
