Four classic originals. Four amazing remixes. Coppa and his Comanche imprint continue to up the game, and change the game. CMR004 comes with remixes from Benny L, Samy Nicks, AKOV and Blaine Stranger, who each take on one of the tracks from Coppa's An Act Of Aggression LP.
Coppa's reputation and hard work has been rightfully recognised, and after years in the game he is fully flying the flag for drum & bass on stages all over the world. The new remix collection adds another dimension, with four new takes on some of the bigger tunes from last year's album. 
Blaine Stranger takes on Coppa & Raise Spirit's Huge Oh No, which features Nihayet. The same storming, ominous sound, the same massive vibes, but a fresh approach, with Blaine bringing the drums front and centre and adding new synth melodies in a remix which the crowds'll love, taking the tune to yet more listeners than before. Watch out for this one, fire in the dance. Coppa and Disphonia provide the wicked Paranoize, which Akov remixes for CMR004. Just when you thought the original couldn't be added to, Akov completely switches things up, dropping the tempo to half time, isolating the vocals and zeroing in on details to boost the very best parts of the track. A perfect remix on many fronts, you'll want to play this one again and again.
Benny L navigates the Rhythms Of Life, courtesy of the main man Coppa, Virtue and Damian Yonge. Once again, the devil's in the detail, as the remixer swaps in heavier basslines and sharp kicks to bring the new version to life. Energetic and joyful, this is a new anthem in the making. Bristol has often stood as a cultural hub for drum & bass, and from its pits comes Demigroove. Starting his musical career in the city, at just 22 years old, Demigroove has been gradually making his mark, working in sonic solitude over this next release until it personified his sound.

Honing his skills from none other than the legendary Raiden whilst studying music technology at University he now presents the evolution of his music is his single ‘Exile / Silicon’ on Deception Recordings, two tracks which epitomise what he’s about as an artist. What’s great about Demigroove is that he conjures his own world through intricate atmospherics and billowing musicality. Never going directly down one pathway, time and time again he builds from different sectors to create his own spectrum. And this single gives listeners a glimpse into what that is and why he’s become such a staple name within sets recently.

‘Exile’ starts off with a distorted bassline and fluctuating beat patterns, taking you deeper and deeper with each wavelength. Frequencies duck and dive, a bouncing march underpinned by kicking drums and clapping hi-hats. Infusing a cocktail of hard-driving, industrial notes and the kind of layers which only add to its tightly knit composition, Demigroove brings the noise with every bar. Smashing snare and intimate growling begin to slowly wind you in, with every dark crevasse of the mix providing yet more intimidating pitfalls to tumble into. If this is your first glimpse into what Demigroove has to offer, you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Then on the flipside, you’re presented with ‘Silicon’. Demigroove demonstrates why he’s being watched by critics so diligently now, primarily because his output to date has been astounding for a relative newcomer. Once again, Demigroove catapults you into a dark yet versatile landscape, one filled with a whirlwind of snapping beats and firing drum kicks. Mysterious and enigmatic, the artist never shies away from the more daring side of production, plunging you into a construction line of bassline, crushing snare and peddled drums. You’re thrown into a crevase so tight, it’s difficult to pull yourself out from. And instead, you’re left to bask in the scene which Demigroove has built around you. Lifestyle Music returns with a two-part single, this time representing the sounds of Mean Teeth featuring collaborations with Kerizma MC and Skylark.

The Mean Teeth duo reigning from Estonia and Lithuania are a name making serious waves in the Drum & Bass scene, seeing recent releases on Renegade Hardware and Bad Taste to name a few. For this release they’ve teamed up with British Kerizma MC for Gutterfunk, and young French production prodigy Skylark for Hydra.

The first track up ‘Gutterfunk’ backed up by the host from the UK’s South Coast ‘Kerizma MC’, sets the tone for the start of the single. Brighton’s own brings the fire on the vocals, whilst the collab smashes the airwaves with deep burly bass and hard-hitting drums; these guys really are firing a weapon. The break then takes you to another dimension, all while maintaining the dark vibe of this masterpiece, before taking you for another ride - lock, stock and two smoking barrels.

Next, ‘Hydra’ brings it down a notch. More instrumental in vibe for your ear holes, expect pounding beats and slick shuffles. A driving groove grips you through the track, with menacing grunts as if a beast itself jumps out from the abyss. This one’s a true stomper and still certain to get the dancefloor moving.

Setting a precedence for the future, there’s no doubt that this combination of artists is a treat to hear, a landmark release for the label, and certainly one you should have in the collection.
