UP NORTH TRIP! is a mix I put together for CR8APES.COM a few years ago. It features a mix of 90′s Canadian hip-hop tracks hand-picked from my collection. I had a lot of fun pulling these records & doing this mix. Each of these tracks had heavy rotation in my Sony Walkman when I was a teen, finding my way in Toronto.
There’s no crazy post-production or multi-track mixing going on here. This mix was done the old-school way with vinyl, a sampler (for ID hits) and two turntables…all done in one-take!

Up North Trip

With the anniversary of J Dilla's death approaching, I wanted to break out the MPC and bang out a remix as a personal ode to the man who's had a huge influence on me, musically. My way of remembering one of hip-hop's greatest producers...

This beat was completed in under an hour & made entirely on an MPC1000. I wanted to keep it as raw as possible (like Dilla's last release, Donuts). Unfortunately the acapella I used was a low quality DIY version of The Money. I need to get my hands on a decent copy.
