The Flying W In Your Christmas Tree

"Same tribe, but different" – unmastered extracts of the eponymous exhibition in June 2022, Cologne. All voices and sounds are based on a letter from 1946. „Same tribe, but different" was the title of my exhibition in June 2022 including various works including sound and art print drafts, inviting collaborations as well taking the location into account, the gallery Richas Digest in the south of Cologne. I love this space, a spatial construct in its function like a stubborn entity on a parking spot. The exhibition explored artistic methods to transform migration as a topic into a cross-media concept without ethnographic attribution, by using archive material and letters pointing my own family history in abstracts to convert myself into an utopia entity: How many stories are told about us, about you and me, pointing us to a feeling of belonging which is kind of alienating?

A teaser with snippets of my current sound installation Tracks United, produced for the Auditorium at subway station Heinrich-Heine-Allee in Dusseldorf. Playtime (almost) around the clock, up from the 8th of March 2019 until the 24th. Tracks United introduces a song like an acoustic walkthrough, crossing the edges of sounds, following voices, breaks and its single recordings. The installation simulates a DJ set by breaking down the previously compiled and produced material into new puzzle pieces into mutually compatible elements for multi-channel sound system. Four tones describe the smallest unit based on the rhombic structure in the underground tunnel, varying in arrangement and musical impressions of the stations, the stop-and-go of the Wehrhahn line. The recordings are partitioned in 17 scenes and different movement patterns and get assembled again in a random schedule. This experimental DJ set works like a modular sound mix above the escalators in their futuristic construction. Treating sounds, voices, music and noise in a way of „composed field recordings“, Tracks United offers a sound ramp of utopia, inviting visitors to imagine an „as-if“: a chorus in a transitory architecture of locomotion, questioning what could be told between these axes of time. Tracks United is the second event in a series of temporary sound art sponsored by the Düsseldorf Art Commission for the "Auditorium", underground station Heinrich-Heine-Allee.
