#3615 DAMON JEE

There is no substitute for experience, and we are all the product of our influences. Damon Jee is the embodiment of that statement. Over the last 20 years, he has carved a career in a very unassuming way, unintentionally writing an exciting new chapter for the global electronic music scene. He is the journeyman who managed to shine brighter by staying true to himself, a musical alchemist experimenting with different sounds to create a deadly new potion. Today, the producer is considered the leading exponent of a fresh and exciting new scene many are calling Dark Disco. 

Getting his start in the studio alongside fellow Frenchman Olivier Giacomotto, the duo became leading players on the then-booming electro house scene with an impressive run of productions on labels like Definitive and CR2. As he started producing more solo works, Jee naturally veered towards his rebellious heritage growing up on nineties rock and industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies, Nirvana and more. The organic appeal of live rock seeped into his productions: distorted guitars gliding atop fat, off-beat and two-fingered picked bass, all framed within a foundation of percussion and drums that carries Damon Jee’s perfectly engineered and distinct sound. The music released under his NOZZ moniker is soaked in this unique and heavy-duty sound: powerful productions which double up as heat-seeking missiles aimed straight at the dancefloor’s heart.

It was his remix of Pardon Moi’s ‘Power to the People’ that really saw a rise in the likeable Frenchman’s profile. It has it all: trance melodies and cosmic chords, a confidant rock stomp coiled with electronic euphoria, and robotic vocals gleefully riding a wave of energetic drums. It received support from the world’s best tastemakers including Solomun, Job Jobse and HAAi, introducing Damon Jee to a brand new audience. 

Today his singular sound can be heard on the underground’s most sought-after labels including Roam, Hafendisko, Suara and Sincopat to name a few. Huge support came in the form of Jennifer Cardini who signed his massive three-track Chamaniac EP to her Correspondant Records. The EP received support from various corners of the electronic music sphere with a diverse group of DJs from Andrew Weatherall to Dixon to Joris Voorn all getting around it.

The natural evolution of Damon Jee leads to the recent launch of his label, Dust & Blood. The new imprint will explore Damon Jee’s distinctive sound even further. 

Today Damon Jee is slotting perfectly into his role as a bona fide headliner. Years of experience ensure each set is delivered with confidant ease and professionalism that sets him apart. Headlining clubs and events from Spain to Australia to Mexico, Damon Jee is set to spearhead a new generation of electronic music lovers who aren’t afraid to cross-pollinate genres for a thrilling new sound. Hailing from Newcastle UK, Artche made a name for himself back in 2018 with his debut record, a collaboration with Cristoph which was signed to Eric Prydz's own Pryda Presents and reached the Beatport no.1 top spot. Since then he has gone from strength to strength releasing on a plethora of well established labels such as Terminal M, Yoshitoshi & Last Night On Earth, the latter being a collaboration with label boss Sasha himself. From the being supported by the scenes big hitters like Eric Prydz, Pete Tong & Lane 8, Artche's success is plain to see despite only his short time in the industry so far. With his vocals likened to that of Depeche Mode and his eclectic range of productions ranging from deep house to techno it's not hard to see why Artche is making waves in the electronic music.

Finally! The time has come to release my Electric Island 2021 set, just in time for my reunion with @sydneyblu next weekend. It feels like a bit of a blur, but I vividly remember all the smiling faces who danced before me at Stage 2: thank you for bringing your best vibes and amazing energy. I have so much gratitude for this experience - it was a beautiful day on so many levels and I think this translates through the music.

The set is upbeat with a dark flare, true to my sound while carefully matching the high energy that Electric Island brings. Huge thanks to the organizers (Coda, Embrace, Platform) for an incredible production and giving me this opportunity to share my craft.

Known for their classy take on progressive house, Transpecta branch out into the world of the compilation mix market with the considerable talents of Dmitry Molosh at the controls. ‘Impressive Progressive’ is a snapshot of Transpecta’s incredible back catalogue and some unreleased premiers with stand out tracks from label favourites, East Cafe, Darko De Jan and Rick Pier O’Neil. 

One of the stars of the recent progressive house renaissance is most assuredly Dmitry Molosh. The Belarusian globe-trotting DJ and genre-defining producer has been making ever-larger waves for many years now from his rapier-sharp musical focus. Ever the consummate professional, Dmitry brings a lifetime of passion and the studio skills of someone twice his age to bare on Impressive Progressive, compiling and mixing nothing short of a perfect journey through sound. 

The beauty of Dmitry’s own music is in its elegance. Long drawn out passages of percussion making way for glistening melodies which totally captivate you. With this mix, he has explored those ideas fully; playfully marrying beats and melodies into one cohesive and dramatic whole. Opening with East Cafe’s epic ‘Only I Am To Blame’ Molosh patiently shifts through the gears drawing the listener deeper into the Transpecta rabbithole. Highlights come thick and fast, including Tripswitch’s incredible remix of ‘The Way You Left Us’, Dmitry’s own reworking of Darko De Jan’s Undisclosed Ambitions and Rick Pier O’Neil’s peak-time monster, ‘Square Garden’.
