The Iowa Music Showcase is just what the name says, a showcase for Iowa music.

But it is a showcase for ALL of Iowa’s music, regardless of style, genre, decade, popularity, or location.

For the purposes of this webiste and occasional podcast, I am defining Iowa music as music made by a band or artist that was based in Iowa at the time of the recording.

Each week, the blog post will feature some source - like a website, playlist, app, or some such - where you can find and/or hear music from Iowa. If you know any sources, send me an email at iowamusicshowcase@gmail.com.

Every month (sometimes more often), the website will include a podcast that you can download.

Jesse W. Johnson plays hooky-yet-dark rock & roll with the a little twinge of country twang. Johnson is a veteran of the Chicago scene, having reached local acclaim fronting Jet W. Lee, and his experience is immediately apparent upon first listen. Together with his solo band, Johnson presents tight, muscular songcraft with beautiful melodies and surprisingly dark lyrics. Most of all, his songs do something not so common today, tell a story, and it’s thoughtful word choice in the music that helps the listener personalize each song. Jesse and his bandmates Dane Marcussen (drums), Yoo Soo Kim (viola, synth), and Timothy Cap (bass) are finishing up a new LP for release later in 2020.
