We are all the product of our influences and there is no substitute for experience. Damon Jee is the embodiment of that statement. Over the last 20 years he has carved a career in a very unassuming way, unintentionally writing an exciting new chapter for the global electronic music scene. He is the journeyman who managed to shine brighter by staying true to himself, a musical alchemist experimenting with different sounds to create a deadly new potion. Today, the producer is considered the main exponent of a fresh and exciting new scene many are calling Dark Disco. 

Getting his start in the studio alongside fellow Frenchman Olivier Giacomotto, the duo became main players on the then booming electro house scene with an impressive run of productions on labels like Definitive and CR2. As he started producing more solo works, Jee naturally veered towards his rebellious heritage growing up on nineties rock and industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies, Nirvana and more. The organic appeal of live rock seeped into his productions: distorted guitars gliding atop fat, off-beat and two-fingered picked bass, all framed within a foundation of percussion and drums that carries Damon Jee’s immaculately engineered and distinct sound. The music he released under his NOZZ moniker is especially steeped in this unique and heavy-duty sound: powerful productions which doubles up as heat seeking missiles aimed straight at the heart of any dancefloor.

It was his remix of Pardon Moi’s ‘Power to the People’ that really pushed the affable Frenchman to  a wider audience. It has it all: trance melodies and cosmic chords, a confidant rock stomp coiled with electronic euphoria, and robotic vocals gleefully riding a wave of energetic drums. It received support from the world’s best tastemakers including Solomun, Job Jobse and HAAi, introducing Damon Jee to a brand new audience. 

Today his singular sound can be heard on the underground’s most sought-after labels including Roam, Hafendisko, Suara and Sincopat to name a few. Huge support came in the form of Jennifer Cardini who signed his massive three track Chamaniac EP to her Correspondant Records. Its appeal reaching wide, the EP received support from various corners of the electronic music sphere with a diverse group of DJs from Andrew Weatherall to Chris Liebing to Joris Voorn all getting around it.

The natural evolution of Damon Jee has lead to the recent launch of his label, Critical Monday. The new imprint will explore Damon Jee’s idiosyncratic sound even further. The first release under his Holographic Planes moniker, alongside producer Alvaro Cabana, is a three track dance floor bomb featuring an equally effective remix from Jennifer Cardini. With upcoming releases from Curses, Autarkic, Fairmont, and, of course, Damon Jee, the label is set to become a go-to for those looking to ignite any dancefloor.

Today Damon Jee is slotting perfectly into his role as a bona fide headliner. Years of experience ensures each set is delivered with a confidant ease and professionalism that sets him apart from the rest. Andy Caldwell is a three-time GRAMMY-nominated electronic artist, in-demand songwriter and producer, and world-touring DJ who’s left an indelible mark on dance music for more than two decades. A key architect of the deep house sound, the San Francisco-born, Los Angeles-based artist has forever impacted the global house and dance underground via his multiple projects from his days as part of the innovative live house act Soulstice to his tastemaker record label, Uno Recordings and his timeless sound. Now entering his next creative era, Caldwell continues to push dance music culture to new ground as an artist, producer, entrepreneur and forward-thinking innovator. 

Caldwell is inextricably linked to San Francisco's underground rave movement of the early '90s, a scene and sound he shaped as a then-burgeoning solo artist, first via his breakthrough 1994 solo single "Superfunkidiculous," and later as a founding member of Soulstice, his groundbreaking live house group alongside childhood friend Gabriel Rene. As Soulstice, Caldwell crafted moody downtempo electronic music that mixed elements of jazz, soul and trip-hop in a live-DJ hybrid format. The group released three influential albums on seminal San Francisco imprint Om Records: the critically acclaimed Illusion (2001) and its accompanying remix album, Mixed Illusions (2001), and In the Light (2011). The Soulstice sound, today considered a permanent part of San Francisco's dance music history and musical DNA, solidified the group as one of the first acts in the U.S. to mix live performance and recording elements atop an electronic framework. 

Bolstered by the keen production, songwriting and remixing skills he adopted via his commercial and creative breakthrough with Soulstice, Caldwell has since become one of the most sought-after artists and producers in the scene. As a solo artist, he's built an impressive, genre-expansive body of work, which includes his debut album, Universal Truth (2006, Om Records), and his follow-up full-length, Obsession (2009, Uno Recordings/Tommy Boy Records). He's also released multiple original tracks, remixes and EPs on some of the leading electronic labels of the day, including Ultra Records, Toolroom, Yoshitoshi and Naked Music, among others, in addition to various compilations and DJ mix albums. 

Beyond his original music, Caldwell is a multifaceted tastemaker and innovative entrepreneur.  He founded his trendsetting imprint, Uno Recordings. In addition to releasing his own music, Uno Recordings has helped launch the careers of electronic heavyweights like Wolfgang Gartner, Trentemoller, Behrouz, Yoshimoto and many others.

Most recently, Caldwell launched IO Music Academy, a pioneering boutique music production school based in Los Angeles. IO Music Academy provides a high-quality, artist-centric curriculum focused on engaging music education, boundless creativity and cutting-edge technology. The school, which hosts regular free workshops and masterclasses with electronic legends and rising artists like ZHU, Justin Jay, Sharam, Sultan + Shepard and others, is today ushering in the next generation of producers and artists. IO Music Academy has partnered with and presented at world-class music and tech conferences, including Winter Music Conference, across the years.

Biography :

It came as quite a shock when The Avener’s Fade Out Lines rocketed to number 1 in the German iTunes charts. It had been a long time indeed since a French artist had achieved that kind of success in Germany, especially with such a startling single. The triumph of Fade Out Lines opened a door onto a unique and yet instantly familiar world. Its irresistible, sophisticated rhythms conjured up a dual image of lovers ending up on the quays of the Seine at daybreak, and of an urban club funk beat.
Since then, the single’s phenomenal success has proved contagious, confirming The Avener’s prime intention: to travel the frontiers between genres, periods and styles; between the music we listen to and the music we dance to; between underground and high-end pop. As The Avener says himself: “Fade Out Lines is hard to define. It’s blues with jazz, folk and funk influences, and electronic instruments. It has feelings, emotion and nostalgia, but a lot of energy, too.”
It perfectly reflects his upcoming album, The Wanderings Of The Avener, a sophisticated electro manifesto in the spirit of St Germain and his Boulevard’s nu-jazz sampling, reconciling the styles of Moby and Wankelmut, King Britt and Cassius...
The ghost producer of many club hits, Tristan became The Avener when he decided to re-embrace the pleasure of music for its own sake, his early love of piano and melodies, his rich, eclectic, multilayered musical culture and deep house – an antidote to the mechanical chill that has crept into electro over the last few years.
Tristan shut himself away in the studio for months. “I began to rework old tracks that went unnoticed at the time, giving them a more modern feel...” He was determined to achieve a perfect balance: a mixture of acoustic and electro combining songwriting science with the intuition of a dance-floor specialist. And while The Avener wrote his own music, The Avener also covered Sixto Rodriguez, John Lee Hooker, Mazzy Star, The Be Good Tanyas, Andy Bey and Adam Cohen in a mosaic of seminal blues, underground folk, nocturnal pop, ironic rock and the work of forgotten artists from the 70s and 80s, exploring secret paths of memory. His sampling of Phoebe Killdeer & the Short Straws’ The Fade Out Line, a foretaste of the album, was quietly uploaded in summer 2013. It steadily gathered momentum by word of mouth in France before going massive in Germany and then all around the world.
The Avener’s delicate, radiant style has been welcomed as a So French Touch of Elegance and acclaimed as the missing link between harmonic emotion and the urge to dance worldwide. Confirmation of this triumph looks certain with the release of his first album, The Wanderings of the Avener, out on January 19, 2015.
