Wassuop releases his debut, Sunset Architect, with Street Ritual. A futuristic, glitch and psychedelic bass gem, Patrick gives us a stylistic outlook through mind bending and crunchy sound design. Featuring 4 original tracks and a remix of Duffrey’s “Third Eye Vision”, this feel is captivating through emotive melodies. Title track, “Sunset Architect”, paints us a sonic palette of synth freshness with rhythmic and melodic progressions that will sooth. “Wet Jewelry” is precise breakthrough, it’s a liquid bass gem fused in with intricate detail and genius composition. “Dingle” brings about great mystery being solved through eerie leads, punchy beats, and trickling frequencies of fine technicality. “Balderdash” is an expression of symmetrical sequence of joyful pure dank and its glowing aftermath.

From a dimly lit cave in Austin's own underground, Joseph Roberts, aka “Detox Unit”, has been cooking up his own blend of futuristic frequencies for the past 4 years. His aim, to make the imagination run wild; to tickle the brain in impossible ways. Originally hailing from New York, Joseph spent his childhood tinkering with old radios and building computers, fascinated bu the near endless possibilities that they presented. Inspired by artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Monolake, and Luke Vibert, he picked up a copy of Ableton Live and a myriad of synthesizers and hasn't left his cave since. Now 4 years later Detox Unit has become a familiar and loved name in the Austin experimental music scene known for his intricately woven sets and unique productions.

These like-minded explorers have harnessed the quantum realm to inject sonic paint throughout the gaps, filling them with colorful, abstract sounds unique to their home planets, in order to regenerate the life-force of their new one. The journey has been long and the travelers are weary, but now that this transcendental object has been unleashed; look out.

So lately I have become enamored by chaos and randomness, I have come to love coincidence and beautiful accidents, finding patterns in the randomness and living peacefully with the chaos. I find it to be the most constant thing I have witnessed in society, nature, and beyond lately, working its magic inside the smallest and largest systems around me. I see it in the trees, in the streets, in my mind, and amidst my community.
This EP, for me, was a practice of equilibrium. Using randomization tools and effects inside of Ableton I created the sonic palette, the sounds, the rhythms, the harmonies, and tones. I recorded long sessions of the computer doing its thing, creating sonic chaos, nothing harmonious at this stage, but sonic colors to work from. These recordings would act as pallets for the EP, most songs sharing the same colors. I would then, like a puzzle, piece together these pallets, taking the randomness and creating groove, melody, and harmony. Controlling the entropy by allowing the chaos to blossom into something beautiful, or ugly, or whatever the sounds beckon.
It turned out pretty darn Groovy.
