"Convivium" is Mario Diaz de Leon's third album under his ONEIROGEN alias, and follows the "Plenitude" EP, released in 2015. It was developed over a period of two and a half years, primarily through live performance in the metal and noise underground of NYC. Like its predecessor, the album's core instrumentation is an array of hypnotic synthesizer riffs, pummeling percussion, distorted vocals, and surging noise. With "Convivum", Diaz de Leon has crafted a powerful and singular work of heavy electronic music.

A charged sense of anticipation permeates the music, sustaining tension and mystery through spans of repetition and moments of rupture. The songs build towards hedonistic climaxes, which yield to sparse, expansive passages in which every sonic detail is vividly heard. Inspired in part by Bataille's "Erotism", which connects the "rupture of boundaries" common to sex, mystical ecstasy and ritual sacrifice, as well as the work of psychologist Stanislov Grof on the impacts of birth trauma on the human psyche, "Convivium" is an incantatory journey through primal and dark creative forces.

The artistic output of Mario Diaz de Leon spans a wide range. In addition to his work as Oneirogen, he is highly active as a composer of modern classical music (with a 2016 commission from the LA Philharmonic and releases on Tzadik and Denovali), and is the frontman of Luminous Vault, his recently formed death metal band. Envisioning all of his activity as part of a spiritual practice, he considers Oneirogen to be the most personal side of his work.

"It's just me producing everything, and of course I perform it alone as well." he explains. "Each album is a kind of personal trial or rite of passage. As someone who also works in the classical tradition, I think of them as my symphonies. Its a project where i'm open to all my influences, and i'm entering into mystery and the unknown, battling to carve essences out of formlessness."

With great honour we welcome one of Sweden’s most revered craftsman of industrial soundscapes. “Metempsychosis”, the transmigration of the soul, is the basic concept for the new album from Henrik Nordvargr Björkk. However, not in the classic reincarnative sense, but as a study of how souls rather than being judged by a higher power, themselves chooses what flesh to inhabit. To freely roam between the dimensions and to cling on to any form of life at will. These cycles of life and death, bound in part by flesh, inspired to create these tense and organic atmospheres - all synonymous with the journey of the soul. The result is a natural evolution of Nordvargr´s trademark darkness into more rhythmic and vocal compositions where the confrontational stance of Henrik´s other projects shines through; from the harsh bombast of MZ. 412 to the vocals of Anima Nostra, all surrounded by the darkest Scandinavian aura of horror. Make some Noise! 

Theme: Create a piece using noise as your main (or only) audio source. 

Submission window: Monday 4th March -> Monday 11th March (23:59:59)

Background:
Noise comes in various forms of randomness and color. Experiment with noise as your main audio source, or if you like the added challenge, as your only audio source this week. If you do not own or do not want to use the tangible waves NOISE module, feel free to send external noise audio signals into your AE Modular instead.


The challenge is set, and runs during the submission window set out above, however, please feel free to add entries or leave comments after the initial challenge has ended.

Each entry should contain:

    Link to audio or video example (embedded preferred)
    Short (or not so short) patch notes, explaining how you have built on the above theme



Your entry can be as short/long as you wish, a simple sound or a track, use external fx or synths, do what you can in the time you have - go wild, make the challenge yours!
You are welcome to use previous entries, as inspiration, build on them to form something new, or just use in a different way, you are welcome to submit multiple entries.

Maya in a Black and White Room - AE Modular Patch Challenge #9 Make Some Noise

The challenge was simply to play something that came to mind when looking at the picture (which is out of my studio window, using an IR filter).

All parts were improvised, although it took two passes as I couldn't set everything up at once. The AE Modular part is actually two sounds recorded live at the same time - one is a sequence from the SEQ16 with a well-modulated NYLE FILTER and the other is a Bastl Kastle using the same modulating LFO patched across and the whole thing passed through a modulated SVFILTER. Then there are the Mellotron parts, all played live but afterwards.

On ​Reveal (his 2nd Album),​ Sascha Bachman, aka ​HAND​, has created a unique balance of classic ambient music, sounds and musical figures that touch the edge of melody and harmony, and a just-above-subliminal pulse. These elements come together in a sound world that is in turn comforting and haunting. ​Reveal's​ surface may be gentle, but the music reaches deep, starting with the stratospheric heights of “God Only Knows,” to the galactic distances of “Into the Void,” and concluding with “Poem for Tanja,” a nostalgic poem for magnetic tape.
