Mississippi running aground. Scuttled, the 24 tons of gunpowder in its hull exploded, creating a sonic wave heard 20 miles away, as graphically described by Capt. Barnard. Also described are interesting foraging details regarding accommodations, victuals, and sleeping with pigs.
