2 AM: A Nocturne

So it Begins

One of the true pleasures of living in a northern country is the occasional feeling of the warmth of the winter sun on your face. There's a word for this --apricity. A brief burst of apricity warms both the body and the spirit.

The composition was inspired by the poem "Crossing the Water" by the American poet Sylvia Plath (1932-1963).

Crossing the Water

Black lake, black boat, two black, cut-paper people.
Where do the black trees go that drink here?
Their shadows must cover Canada.

A little light is filtering from the water flowers.
Their leaves do not wish us to hurry:
They are round and flat and full of dark advice.

Cold worlds shake from the oar.
The spirit of blackness is in us, it is in the fishes.
A snag is lifting a valedictory, pale hand;

Stars open among the lilies.
Are you not blinded by such expressionless sirens?
This is the silence of astounded souls.

Crossing the Water

Inspired by the final lines from the poem Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood by the English Romantic poet William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

"The Clouds that gather round the setting sun
Do take a sober colouring from an eye
That hath kept watch o'er man's mortality;
Another race hath been, and other palms are won.
Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears."

This composition was inspired by a reading of the poem "When You Are Old" by the Irish poet William Butler Yeats (1865-1939).

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,

I'm going to create 4536 songs, but I can't do it without a routine. Therefore, the resistance when creating is made small. Same as swimming. Water is 840 times more resistant than air, so try to minimize the resistance in the water. Then you can swim with a little propulsion. Creating a song is easy and simple, and is completed by playing the piano. This is fast. I decide to listen once to decide whether to make it or not. Recently, about 90% has been adopted. Is it about 10% to stop while playing? Occasionally, when I fall into a certain state, I have to replay it several times, but most of the time it is OK. It is good so far, but this is a little heavy (resistance is high). Decide the song title. Upload to soundcloud. Send blog in Japanese and English. Register on facebook. Put out on Twitter. Put it on another blog. This is the place. The song title decision is the most difficult. It can take many times as long as the song. Recently, I'm doing well because I have a good source, but I'm getting less. That's why it's a little short of an hour.
