During the past few months of the Pandemic chronicles, we rekindled our love for Germany. Both of us were born there, but we haven't lived there for over two decades. 

We witnessed the death of techno caused by mainstream capitalists around the millenium. Engaging with the artists, we were stunned by how well the scene has recovered since. It also showed us how diverse techno has become and that audio quality, access to a diverse library, or distribution are no longer obstacles for music producers.

We aim to investigate what defines underground techno in Germany and interview artists about their views on it. We will be publishing the interviews in German and English, allowing a broader audience to dive into this subculture. We will also ask each artist to record a set for our SoundCloud channel and release both every Wednesday.

Without a doubt KRL MX (Karl Max) is one of the most promising up and coming artists currently.

Another product of Paris Techno/hard dance scene. Krl has been releasing some fantastic music of late including a thundering track on Ismus most recent VA compilation as well as a remix for ARTS and superb EPs on Ismus and the well known COUP imprint.

Exilles is a project born from the alchemy of two minds, united by a common desire to undermine, compose and recompose raw, corrosive and dreamy sounds with a mystical and enigmatic imagery. They strictly perform live, orchestrating ancestral ceremonies with analog machines and modular synthesizers, whose dark and hypnotic sounds chase the persistent in a synesthetic atmosphere.
With their techno built around the polarity of light and darkness, black and white, continuously keeps us poised between opposites, between consciousness and raving.
After years of experience of residency as LiveAct/DjSet among European Techno scene with other alias, they release the first ep as Exilles on Involve Records, followed by other ep’s on A.R.T.S, Planet Rhythm, Persistence and their own Genau Recordings. They performed Live in different Clubs like Smolna, Griessmuehle, Fabrik and more.

A millennial stronghold, where space and time seem to crystallize. Exilles invites you to enter the wide entrance, built with thunderous, corrosive kick and neurotic sounds. Proceed to enter a maze of tunnels, stairs, niches that emerge from the hypnotic sounds from the floor and clinging on to it, little by little, airy and seductive melodies, inviting you to go even deeper.
And then that telluric rhythms became more tight and you find yourself trapped, breathless, paralyzed: a crypt, a man. The face covered with a mask. The sound waves become ink and pervade the body, helpless, wrapped in a dream synth tangle. The assertive kick back lashing his shots, with the ritual ending. The crossing to escape has finally opened.
This is the imagination of Exilles, which with its techno built around the polarity of light and darkness, black and white, continuously keeps us poised between opposites, between consciousness and raving.

Next up for the podcast series we have Romain Vincent for you.

Romain Vincent is a Flemish producer and DJ residing in Belgium.
At the beginning of 2013, he began to produce after getting inspired by the rave scene
and its multiple sub-genres. The connection between humans and music is priceless for
him.
When he’s not producing in his fully equipped basement he’s out gathering sounds from
nature and our environment. You can recognize his music with his distinct thumping
kicks, distorted synths and processed percussions on darker textures.
The Corona pandemic gave Romain Vincent extra motivation to produce a lot.
Because of this he also learned more on technical level and he focused extra hard on his
music.
This is how he got his first VA release on Märked, an Amsterdam based label with his
track ‘Breaking Barriers’, which premiered on HATE youtube channel. He also recently
released on a VA for Synergy which premiered on OBSCUUR with ‘Solid Edges’ which
supported a mental health organization.
After sending his demos to several labels, Ithica records contacted him a few months
later with the question if he wanted to do a 3track EP release. Why hesitate?
Last but not least he’s also on an upcoming VA for Courtoisy records that will see the
light really soon alongside well known artists. Head of Courtoisy records Cynthia Spiering
also remixed his track ‘Unusual Experiments’. This VA will be released next week 25/05.

Allow yourself to be carried away by the dark and industrial techno of the 28-year-old Berliner Japau. His path was laid as early as 2013, when he accidentally ended up at a dark party at Berlin’s ‘Arena Club’. Since then, techno has been an integral part of his existence, and he can’t imagine life without it. In July 2019, with his best friend Alex (Odar), he started then DJ’ing. Their first Controller was a Pioneer DDJ-400. Since then, Japau was on his journey – he was captivated. Japau’s style is characterised by driving and pushing baselines but also hard kicks that shape his industrial sound. 
You can expect an audiophile listening pleasure in the dB limit range!
