Solid Steel in association with Serato (2nd October) Mainstay of the Swedish electronic scene HNNY has released prolifically across Sweedish labels Local Talk, the Alex Boman affiliated Studio Barnhus, and his own Puss (run with Kornél Kovács). Also known for his popular ‘Music For Listening’ mix series he turns in a Solid Steel mix that follows in the same vein, a laid-back selection with music from Sufjan Stevens, Matthew Halsall, Four Tet, Linda Perhacs and Aphex Twin.

An ambient-ambiance tape experience by two promising new acts from different sides of P-Earth.

With their self-titled debut last year on Total Stasis, CS + Kreme’s leftfield, ambient pop took us by surprise and turned out to become one of our favorite, rinsed home-records from 2016. With a handful of gigs so far exclusively in the open air of Melbourne, the duo, consisting of Conrad Standish and Samuel Karmel (also part of F Ingers), team up again for this release to jam together a bubbly, hypnotizing lullaby before venturing off into a warped dreamscape around the 10 minute mark. On the B-side Vancouver-via-Kaifeng resident Yu Su cleanses the body, mind, and soul with Little Forest. Yu, one-half of You’re Me who previously released Plant Cell Division, combines beautiful snares, easy-going percussion, lush synths, and downtempo beats with a clear message: Chill-out...

"I'm Close To Heaven" is a live 1hr recorded session of Modeste playing with a Tape Delay unit while tunneling sounds through an array of effects, repeated and endlessly evolving. 

The amazing thing about this work is that it almost consist of never repeating patterns and sounds. Everything has been triggered by hands without a single sequencing unit/pattern, which probably helps toward approaching a human feel that electronic music sometimes lacks.

About the mix

I’ve been thinking about a concept for a mix titled “As the city sleeps” for some time. Soundtracking one of my favourite times of day, between 4-5am, the witching hour, when you fall in love, spend time getting to know the things about your friends you never knew and when towns and cities feel like your own.
When I was asked to contribute an hour of music to the inaugural “Monolithic Installation" (more info below), an immersive light installation in Bristol at Motion this summer it was the perfect catalyst to finally record the mix. I have gone back in and worked on it since and am happy to share it with you now.

As the city sleeps, a mixtape [January 2018]

A familiar face with an unfamiliar sound.... That is the agenda for the latest edition of the Monday mix series as we invite Jimpster to contribute to our ever growing series. The Freerange Records boss remains a stalwart of the dance and electronic music scene having released a healthy assortment of music across some twenty odd years. His record label remains a consistent staple of house, disco and techno with Freerange having released music by the likes of Tony Lionni, Demuja, Detroit Swindle, Hanna and many more. 

Whilst Jimpster isn't stereotypically known for his take on ambient music we leapt at the prospect of him delivering an alternative mix of eclectic selections.
