A recording of Radio Luxembourg's final few minutes on the 'Great 208'
Recorded off-air in Northampton on 30/12/1991 complete with fading. The plan was for Radio Luxembourg to have it's English service on the Astra Satellite only - but that only lasted another 12 months.
The sad goodbye didn't last long as someone forgot to switch the transmitter off and the assembled presenters decided to briefly go pirate.

How The Hot FM transitioned from 1988 into 1989.

1988 into 1989 on Chiltern 97 The Hot FM

Sunshine 101 (Portmarnock, Dublin, 531kHz) on 16th July 1986.

One morning listening to Sunshine 101...  The record "Bang Zoom! Let's Go Go!" by The Real Roxanne was playing.  Once the song had ended the DJ played it again!  After that he took a call from a listener asking if they wanted to hear the song again.  The listener said no but he played it anyway.  I listened for at least an hour and he kept playing that record over and over.  After that I was doing other things but periodically throughout the day I kept checking every half hour or so and the station was always playing that record!  This went on until late in the evening.
At one point I made this short recording on the end of a tape.  I wish I'd recorded more but this is all I have.

At the time I had no clue what was happening but looking online today I found a few morsels of information...
The station was launching a new "Hot Hits" format and the DJ on air was Pat Courtenay.
One comment said he'd locked himself in the studio and was fired 2 weeks later.
Another comment says it started at 5pm, another says "late afternoon", another says it went on for 2 and a half hours.  It definitely started earlier than that and went on a lot longer than 2 and a half hours!
