Amadeus sees it’s catalog graced yet again by New Zealand outfit Chaos In The CBD. The kiwi brothers, birthed Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales, are no new faces to the label, or the wide variety of genre-bending acronyms they encompass. Having recently relocated from tropical Auckland to damp London earlier this year, the two take their productions along with them in their latest efforts, 816 To Nunhead.

Title track and aside, “816 To Nunhead,” is tinged with what’s left of summer. A nostalgic tune built for the sun and soaked in funk. It’s a track reminiscent of early french disco, almost as if built for the two robots themselves. Guitar plucks and hi hats flow seamlessly throughout the tune, aided by a glorifying vocal, “I would like to think of my music as just an extension, an extension of me of today or whatever.” 

What emotion of freedom and escape evoked on the Aside can be contrasted on the flip, “78 To Stanley Bay,” a tune built behind the ever looming theme of loneliness. Accompanied by a live trumpet courtesy of Isaac Aesili, ’78 To Stanley Bay’ tells us a story, or rather a journey, built behind dirty hats and delayed keys. This is a track fashioned for everywhere but the club, and we absolutely love that.

Next up is four new mixes by Lady Blacktronika herself! Starting with "Lose My Life (Off The Wall Mix)" A shimmering more housey interpretation with subtle uplifting chords which was originally going to come out Aaron Carl's label; Wallshaker before his unfortunate passing away.  (We love you Aaron...Rest in peace)

"Lose My Life (Dark Bassline Dub)" Stays close to the original but as the title suggests, adds a new bassline that turns the already stunning original into a more dark and brooding Beatdown affair.

"Never Everything (Beatdownbient Mix)". A beautiful more subtly building rendition with atmospheric flourishes and quarky rhythms. Followed up by "Never Everything (2011 Lettin’ My Egun Dance Mix)" with an equally hypnotic but moodier version that adds a touch more rhythm, synths, and vocals. 

To round off this EP, Your Only Friend deliver a mellowed out Deep House rendition in „Never Everything (Your Only Friend Remix)“.

Released through French imprint Egoplanet, his latest offering, the "Roach Fingers" EP, features four tracks of raw yet elaborate house music. Take the title track here : a clever use of samples, solid beats, syncopated Rhodes parts, the Canadian producer distils proper late night warehouse groove through your ears and body. The vinyl is out just in time for Christmas, get it while you can, this will definitely grow on you!
