This is gonna sound cliché but Nas’s « Illmatic » LP and the 12’’ remixes had a huge influence on me. I certainly listened to each track hundreds of times since I discovered it. As an unknown, broke beatmaker the only way to have Nas spitting rhymes on one of my beats was to make a remix. Except Q-tip’s skills (the man behind the « One Love » beat), the ingredients are the same : the classic SP1200 / S950 combo and some records !
And for those of you who don’t like remixes or would rather write rhymes, here’s the instrumental version too.
