Crossfrontier Audio are proud to announce the label debut of the delectable and trouble-causing duo of Hacker & Miethig, with the Sambal EP.  Finding a lease of life through their music, their journey so far has seen exquisite releases on the eye-catching Poesie Musik and the hallmark Save Us Records – so we jumped at the chance to welcome them to the CFA family.

Tightly woven from head to toe, Hacker & Miethig craft dark room music to lose yourself to, and the EP definitely doesn't shy away from the deep and lustrous sounds they've been tunnelling away in the studio creating just for you - giving us two original works: Sambal and Djahe. We've also got a special guest remixing the title track...

Take your pick from the trembling synths and hypnotic rhythm that Sambal roars in, or set the pace with the trippy vibes of Djahe - both of these have been making a lot of noise, absolutely killing it when brought into the mix. When you've listened to both, you'll understand why Hacker & Miethig are gaining a mischievous reputation across the dance-floors of the world, all the while having a good time with it. 
By now, if you haven't heard of Jonas Saalbach, what the hell have you been doing? His remix of Sambal is the catalyst to a raucous moment and you know it... from the second the punches come in, the crisp production on this is magic. Bring on the summer.

Berlin duo Kolett & Zadak continue their hot streak on Exploited Ghetto following the success of Amplifire and Azizam with another formidable creation.

Familiar faces behind the decks at clubs in their home town like Kater Blau, Sisyphos or Ritter Butzke, theirs is a deep and heady sound. Roadhouse rocks a swung triplet rhythm which immediately makes it stand out along with its sinister off-beat bassline. On-beat hats further the jarring feel as hypnotic, warped vocal cuts and sustained synth notes heighten the eerie vibe. It’s a moment of relief from the sonic tension when the epic bassline cuts its way into the heart of the track, with the commanding vocal refrain coming out of nowhere to lay the icing on the cake. Wobbly 8-bit synths add more texture before the brooding bassline grows in swagger with metallic layers swirling out of the ether to bolster its power. Despite its vigour, it’s somehow understated, with its tense feel doing away with the need for excessive power.

Whitesquare deliver a superb rework, taking elements from the original and marrying them to a more straight-up, rolling 4/4 groove that’s laced with delicious conga rolls. Pretty chime sounds play out the chord progression and build the emotion as those vocal cuts are boosted up cleverly to a lead refrain status. A bold marimba melody cuts into play, spaciously reverbed, before a plump analog bassline pumps its way into action. A careful, uncluttered arrangement and excellent mixing allows each element to shine beautifully, with subtle field recording type nature sounds and well-placed FX filling in the gaps perfectly.

A new Chapter is upon us. ‘The Mirror: Reflected’ dazzles with four brilliant representations of Kieran Apter's original works released on Chapter 24 in early 2018.

Apter, a label regular hotly tipped for success as the head honcho and resident DJ of Edinburgh house and techno party ‘Tweak_’, is joined this time by four heavyweights who make a big impression.

Co-owner of Maeve, The Drifter is a DJ and producer of the highest order. He opens the book with an Edition of the title track which pairs bombast and dancefloor drive with a heavy dose of cosmic disco goodness.

The first to rework ‘Without’, Apter’s collaboration with Leon Power, is Hamburg’s very own Doctor Dru. The track is a masterclass in deep, propulsive and forward-thinking house music that makes full use of the haunting and evocative vocal of the original.

Next, ESP Institute, Futureboogie and Culprit artist and hero of Ibiza’s We Love… at Space, Ian Blevins presents a deep, contemplative and emotional meditation for the afterhours as his reimagination of the track.

Domenic Cappello closes the EP out. The legendary DJ and mainstay of Glasgow’s Sub Club recasts ‘Without’ through layered and interweaving arpeggios that are reminiscent of Larry Heard. The effect is highly compelling and hypnotic and a fitting end to the package.

PREMIERE: Kapibara - Narwal (Original Mix) [Atmosphere Records]

Endangered Records is set to release Light In The Lotus EP, the return to the label from founder @briancid.

After ending last year with the release of his debut album on Balance Music, Brian has been on a global tour in support of it. It’s taken him everywhere from Zurich, Moscow and Berlin, to Mexico City, Hawaii, and Cairo. The album was critically acclaimed by his peers, fans and the media, with Billboard featuring him in their ‘Ones To Watch’ section. With his first release of 2019, Brian continues the journey of lush & melodic techno started with the album, and is back on his own Endangered imprint with the Light In The Lotus EP.

The title track opens the release and features the first ever time of Brian using his own vocals. The cosmic beats merge perfectly with his infectious hook on ‘Light In The Lotus’, and those words also contain a deep personal meaning for Brian. ’Species of the Other Kind’ follows, and is aimed right at the dance floor. This one works well during the peak time hours, with unbridled energy from its arpeggiated synths. The pace is then switched up for the second half of the release, with ‘Spirals’ bringing forth more of a melodic and emotional vibe. ‘Melting Clock’ concludes the EP and builds tension with Brian’s signature extended breakdown, before ending the journey and setting the listener back down to earth.

Brian describes the EP: “While learning to enjoy the magical journey of life, this musical project turns into a clear reflection of how my story unfolds. To take it even further and give it stronger personal touch, I’ve printed my own vocals on it, although it was not part of the plan. As I wrote and recorded the reference vocals for another artist, I realized it only made sense for me to be the one reciting it. ‘I see the light in the lotus / inside of me there is a roar’. A state of mind that drifts towards the strongest level of enlightenment powerful as a lion’s roar, impacting earth with its presence. This four tracker continues the musical story of my last album Meteorite Man. Forward thinking driving beats, with a sophisticated touch of subtlety and power. Pronounced melodies diving deeper into a dramatic story. I aimed to push my sound even further just as I have pushed my body, mind & spirit.”
