String Quartet No. 2 models a process of actively listening to an imaginary sonic environment. Continuous fluctuations and transformations in sound features trace a landscape of aural engagement. Over time, the modeled listening constructs a sense of the environment’s variegated identity through an always-shifting consciousness of foreground and background.

This is a teaching recording for a four-part (advanced level) round about the birthday of the trees, the holiday of Tu B'Shevat.

This song has four parts to honor the four levels of fruit and their symbolism present at the seder.

Written in 2018, at the Round House bath tub Tu B'Shevat seder.
