The University of the Sunshine Coast Sippy Downs campus is a flora and fauna reserve, spread over 100 hectares adjoining the Mooloolah River National Park. In 2013, the University became a Land for Wildlife reserve with the Sunshine Coast Council to further commit to managing a large proportion of the site as habitat for native plants and animals.

In this recording from the live stream, we can primarily hear the energetic dawn chorus of Rainbow Lorikeets in their favourite trees on campus. The UniSC Sunshine Coast campus is in the heart of the UNESCO recognised Sunshine Coast Biosphere Reserve.

This is a demo, unedited recording of Tellus contact microphone recording insects in the soil. The recorder is a Sound devices Mix Pre. 

The capsule is placed just under some loose soil, where there were a few woodlice and bugs crawling around the microphone.

I first ran across Rick Hannon's work when I purchased his album, "Dusk to Dawn on the Camas Prairie." After listening to this extraordinary collection, I reached out to Rick, and he agreed to join me on the Natural Curiosity Project to to talk about career as a photojournalist, photographer, sound recordist, and sound designer. From natural soundscapes like the Camas Prairie, to the sounds of antique typewriters, Rick does it all.

Episode 223 - Rick Hannon Of Evocative Sound

I recorded this right on the coast with my microphones directed towards the Tasman Sea. Behind me is grassland with the Egmont Lighthouse and behind that, half hidden by clouds is Mount Taranaki. Which is the view you can see on the photograph.
The waves are breaking on a boulder and stone beach. The sound of the rocks being moved around by the waves is quite strong. A skylark is singing  above the grass behind the microphones. An unusual sound for me - living in Europe- in October.
I was using LOM BasicUcho microphones connected to a Zoom F3 recorder at 32bit.
