Continuing with A Sound Map of the River Isar, I recorded at the Echinger Stausee a bird reserve  south of Landshut

Another recording for my Isar Sound Map. It´s the new foot and cycle bridge over the Rivar Isar in Landshut. My back was to a road, facing the river. Across is a building site, the cranes can be heard at times as well as people crossing the bridge and traffic from the road. But because I was down by the river the road noice is pretty muted. I used a stereo microphone and two hydrophones, in the edit I´ve put all tracks together.

Isar Sound Map. Sieben Rippen near Bruckbergerau. The Sieben Rippen (seven ribs) is a short section of rapids on the River Isar. The bed of the river and the ribs here are made of a conglomerate stone mix (psephite) which is the only place it occurs on the middle and lower stretches of the Isar.
I used a selection of microphones - a stereo, a shotgun and two hydrophones, from various positions to record the differences in the flow.

The first section is from about 50meters from the waves, the second is about 2meters. Then comes a hydrophone section - I buried it in the sand just on the edge of the waves. Finally it´s back to about 50meters again

A field recording made above Landshut on a steep wooded ridge. A main road runs parallel to the ridge giving a constant background noise. There´s a mixture of bird life to hear including drumming from Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

This is a short recording of a small creek using 2 JRF D Series Hydrophones with XLR impedance adaptors. The hydrophones were placed just below a small rock step, the left one lay in a more turbulent flow and the right in a small eddy.

This is a field recording which I made in a meadow orchard in June. The meadow orchard is kept completely organic and is a wild flower, insect, bird and bat oasis.

Biosphere Reserve Oberlausitzer Heide- Und Teichlandschaft

This is basically a late afternoon recording of Crows and Jackdaws. I recorded it at Landshut Berg, Landshut, Bavaria, Germany on the top of a hill. It´s a part of Landshut with houses, gardens and orchards - a liminal space between the town and where it slips into the countryside. My back is to the church yard of Heilig Blut looking down towards a road in the valley. There´s a gravel road above me. Mothers are collecting their children from a kindergarten. I like the interaction between the human voices and those of the birds. It´s recorded using two LOM Basic Ucho microphones connected to a Zoom F3 recorder at 32bit. I like the feeling of space in this recording. There´s a lot of other things going on here - traffic, car doors slamming, aircraft, garden work and the church bell.

Landshut Berg. Field Recording

I recorded this using 2 JRF hydrophones connected to a Zoom F3. I was recording rain showers falling on a pond in the nature reserve "Standortübungsplatz Landshut mit Isarleite" near Landshut in Bavaria, Germany. I heard the bubbling sound from the fish as I recorded, but it´s when I really turned up the volume in post that I heard the very quiet grunts.

This is a field recording of woodpeckers drumming on trees in a small wood. There is a pond here too, which I also recorded with Hydrophones.  2 LOM Basic Uchos, 2 JRF Hydrophones connected to a Zoom F3 at 32bit.

The bells of St Martin´s Church Landshut recorded Saturday 18th March 2023
“Sontags Einläuten”, Ringing in Sunday, takes place every Saturday afternoon at 3pm. All the church bells in the town ring for about 15 minutes. 
Landshut is a town and the administrative centre of Lower Bavaria, Germany. 
The Gothic church of St Martin´s was built between 1389 and 1500. With a hight of 130 meters it is the world´s highest brick church tower made without steel girders and is the 2nd tallest brick structure in the world.
The church has 9 bells, the heaviest weighs over 7 tons and the smallest just 60 kg.
Recorded next to the church in a quiet square called Martin´s Cemetery. As well as the occasional passing pedestrian one can also hear nesting Peregrine Falcons calling as they circle the tower. - Listen carefully, they´re almost drowned out by the bells!

This is my first bat recording. I´m still trying to get used used to the bat detector and combining that with my Zoom F3. It needed a lot of cleaning, anyway, here it is.

Dawn chorus recorded on the LBV reserve, Spatenbräufilz, Egling, Bavaria, Germany. 
Recorded on the 18th May 2023. Spatenbräufilz is a wet meadow surrounded by woods. It was a very cool morning with a light wind rustling the leaves on near by trees.

A dawn chorus from Sunday, 14th May 2023 recorded on  Standortübungsplatz Landshut mit Isarleite, a nature reserve near Landshut, Bavaria, Germany.  It´s a slow quiet start, which builds up as birds nearer the microphone start and then becomes quieter later again.

I recorded this yesterday in Central Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. The hover-fly has landed on the LOM Geofón near the microphone. The tapping sound is its´ proboscis tapping against the cable. It seemed to like the taste of the cable.

I attached my LOM Geofón to the builders scaffolding in St. Martin´s Church Landshut, Bavaria, Germany. The voices picked up by the Geofón sound like uneasy souls.

Every 4 years Landshut hosts a 4 week long medieval festival celebrating the marriage of a Bavarian Duke to a Polish Princess in 1475. There are processions, music and games. 
There are grandstands erected in the old town. I recorded this on a Saturday afternoon. People are picnicking on the grandstands. Drummers and trumpeters move up and down the old town. The costumes worn by the more than 2400 participants are all historically correct.

Landshuter Hochzeit - Landshut Wedding

I recently stayed in a small cottage in Penbontrhydyfothau,
Llandysul,Ceredigion, Wales. It was in a small narrow valley with a large stream flowing near it. The woods and garden were home to a number of robins. This is a recording I made of the resident robin and a neighbour, the stream flowing in the distance and the wind blowing though the leaves of the bushes and trees near the cottage

I recorded this tidal pool just above the tidal line. The sound of the waves are adding a certain sense of place to the recording. The small molluscs and a couple of very small hermit crabs were active grazing the sea weed. Occasionally one investigated the hydrophone. There are some very small fish swimming in the pool too.

Tidal Pool, Taupō Bay, Far North District and Northland Region, North Island of New Zealand

Slow listening. I recorded this November 2023 in the Trauson Kauri Park. It´s a spring afternoon. The wind is blowing through the Kauri trees canopies. It´s quite a peaceful scene, but there´s a lot going on. I´m slowly identifying the birds. Anyone can help me here I´d be very grateful.

Trauson Kauri Park, North Island, New Zealand

I recorded this right on the coast with my microphones directed towards the Tasman Sea. Behind me is grassland with the Egmont Lighthouse and behind that, half hidden by clouds is Mount Taranaki. Which is the view you can see on the photograph.
The waves are breaking on a boulder and stone beach. The sound of the rocks being moved around by the waves is quite strong. A skylark is singing  above the grass behind the microphones. An unusual sound for me - living in Europe- in October.
I was using LOM BasicUcho microphones connected to a Zoom F3 recorder at 32bit.

I recorded this early November in 2023. Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari is on the New Zealand, North Island. It´s a warm spring morning with sounds of the birds but also farm animals and the occasional vehicle.

I recorded this wasp chewing rotten wood on an old barn door. I think it was using the wood to build a nest. The file is in three parts: the first is  recorded using a stereo microphone, the second is with a contact microphone and the third the stereo microphone again. 
The recording is part of a video, sound project I´m making called "12 Monate" which is my personal view of an old military training ground, now a nature reserve, near where I live.
