Following recent excursions on Masterworks Music and Rebel Hearts, Kiu D returns to Hotbox Boogie, a label he's graced multiple times over the years. As usual, the four tracks on offer - three of which were co-produced by pal MKV - blend extensive samples from original disco and boogie records, with original musical elements. He begins with the clipped guitars, familiar vocal samples, and throbbing nu-disco synth bass of "Funky People", before delivering a breezier chunk of cheery disco-house in the shape of "Love Player". "Spank" puts a heavyweight disco rocket under the backside of Jimmy 'Bo' Horne classic "Spank", before the package is completed by the Bohannon-in-dub throb of "Funky People (Labour of Love Dub)".

I wasn't happy 100% happy with the first mix so I've re listed this again after a few tweeks with the EQ, compressor and I've changed the kick for a 909. Think it sounds much better now at volume.

War (a Discobody better way)

Norman Whitfield & Barrett Strong wrote the anti-Vietnam war protest song “War” in 1969 for the Motown artists The Temptations. But as Motown was worried about how the Temptations fans might receive such a political theme track, Whitfield re-recorded it with Edwin Starr on vocals. Starr’s intense rendition rocketed to #1 on the U.S Pop chart in 1970 and remained there for three weeks becoming his signature track and the most popular protest song ever recorded.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood revamped it on their 1984 multi-platinum debut album “Welcome To The Pleasuredome” produced by Trevor Horn. Their take is superbly electro-funk flavored though it lacks Edwin’s dramatic performance.

On this mix I reconstruct Frankies version adding Starr’s vocals and infusing it with extra rhythms and lots of twists. War’s aggressiveness and Hope’s better-way are described thru the rough bangin’ beats and the dubby groovy sound.

U're The One 4 Me (a Discobody loud shout)

New York based duo D-Train released their first single "You're The One For Me", mixed by François Kevorkian, in late 1981 on Prelude Records. It was an instant success, hitting #1 for three weeks on the U.S. Hot Disco/Dance chart in Jan 1982 and #13 on the U.S. Soul chart. It also entered the UK Pop top-30. Larry Levan hammered it and made it a determinant Paradise Garage anthem. 
Among those who sampled it over the years are N.W.A. for their 1988 “Something 2 Dance 2”, Heavy D & the Boyz for their 1991 “Swinging With Da Hevster”, Pete Rock for his 2001 “Take The D-Train” and Prodigy for their 2004 hit “Girls”. 

It’s one of my 10 all-time fave dance tracks. The beat is sizzling hot, the bassline rules, the synths are dominant, the lyrics are so inspiring and James "D. Train" Williams’s voice is fascinatingly rich, this track is perfection through and through. 
On this mix you get lots of different sounds, extra percussion/bass/bells, longer funky intro, more breaks & reformed bridges and spiritual outro. Enjoy the loud shout!

This track came out in 2009 and totally passed me by.

I came upon the original here http://soundcloud.com/lin-taylor/cant-get-you-out-of-my-head on Lin Taylor's SC page who posts some great modern indie soul if you are interested.

The track really reminds of Dina Carroll................(or maybe I'm just in a drunken haze again!), so kept an old school feel to the mix.

Beefed this up a bit, extended it out, added some horns, some synths....................aww hell, I threw the kitchen sink at it!

Charlie Brown Superstar (Brett Fuller) is a DJ, producer, remixer, and artist from Huntington, WV. A veteran of the West Virginia DJ scene, playing at such clubs as Gumby’s, Gyrationz, and the V Club since the mid 90s, Fuller is known for playing a wide range of music with a focus on Nu Disco and house, and is also known in the Nu Disco/Disco Edit scene as a producer. He has released music with labels across the world, including Candy Beach Records in Spain, Thunder Jam Records in Israel, and Sound Exhibitions Records and Boutade Musique, both out of Italy, as well as American labels, Bent Ant and Fresh Farm Records. Fuller’s songs have charted on all three major DJ music sites: Traxsource, Beatport, and Juno Download. His track “Never Gonna Stop” with Alpaca Edits (England) spent weeks at #2 on Traxsource Lounge/Chill Out chart. Several of his songs have also been included on the Traxsource “Essential List.” In addition to his solo work, in the early 2000s, Fuller also released 2 full-length records and toured with the band Hyatari, and was also a touring member of the 90s band Chum. 

Currently, Fuller concentrates on what he calls Mountain Funk, an eclectic blend of jam, funk, and electronic, with elements of local flavor, that he has showcased at festivals such as Mountain Music Fest, Brew Skies, and Kickin’ It On the Creek, and, more locally, Huntington Music and Arts Fest and Funktafest. Fuller has played clubs across the Midwest, including in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, and is part of the Rust Belt Alliance, which features DJs based in Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Huntington.
