After having first contact with the mystical sound of Goa trance from the middle 90s, the higher state of mind and deep spiritual messages it provides, increased a strong desire for expression of my own musical ideas. That led to my first experiments with music software. A decade later I graduated "Computer Systems in Music” major in New Bulgarian University after years of acquiring a variety of methods for audio synthesis and processing. The result is over a dozen albums in various projects such as Maharishi, ASOMA, Resonant Warrior, Cosmic Portal.

Maharishi is my experimental psychedelic project which I started back in 2001 - a fusion of electronic and authentic folklore music, tribal rhythms and deep meditative ambient soundscapes. In 2011 the album “Sense of Feather" got released and received high critical acclaim - it was included in the “Album of the Year” ranking of the virtual music platform Ektoplazm and aired on the waves of Bulgarian National Radio "Horizont" in 2014. In 2020 I released the album “Essence of Æther” in Bandcamp along with more works by Resonant Warrior, ASOMA and Cosmic Portal.

I have performed at festivals and events in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Ukraine.

Thug life urban areas give birth either to crime, or to art. In the case of Kaloyan Gavrailov (aka KANZ), the shady Lyulin neighbourhood of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, thankfully sparks the latter.

Kaloyan discovers music production in 2004. Captured by breakbeat, in 2007 together with Dimitar Slavkov - Dickie, creates the colourful live act duo 80s Clash. Flowing through genres such as deep and progressive house, he settles in dub techno and ambient, and embarks on his KANZ live act alias.


In 2015 he releases the emblematic "Sea of Uncertainty" trough  Stephan Panev’s KOMPONENTI Imprint. Two years later, KANZ takes off on yet another artistic adventure, resulting in the foundation of the experimental techno live act LESNIK with Kalin Baychev SuB (Porno BPM). With him he rocks the Sofia nightlife scene, performing at various events - ФАЗА, Subfactor radio show, and others.

Throughout the years, labels such as [-M-E-L-M-A-K-], Audio Avantgarde, Adultempo Specialists, KOMPONENTI, Mahorka, WTF is SWAG, Axaminer Records and Amek Collective see KANZ on their release titles. In 2021, the artist's pandemic soul finally pours into his first album “Remind Me Tomorrow” on Mahorka.

It is there where the musical direction of KANZ can be sensed best - ranging from ambient to dub techno, through IDM, generative music and psychedelic electronica. It is where one dives deep. No reminders needed.

Всеизвестно е, че нелекият живот по крайните квартали ражда или престъпност, или изкуство. В случая с Калоян Гавраилов (известен още като KANZ), съмнителният столичен ж.к.Люлин за щастие го тласка към второто.

Калоян открива продуцирането на музика през 2004 г. Запленен от брейкбийта, през 2007 г. заедно с Димитър Славков - Дики, създава колоритния лайв дует 80s Clash. Преминавайки през жанрове като deeep и progressive хаус, той се "настанява" в дъб техно и ембиънтa, и се впуска в музициране под псевдонима KANZ.

През 2015 г. издава емблематичното "Sea of Uncertainty" за лейбъла на Стефан Панев - KOMPINENTI. Две години по-късно KANZ отпътува на поредното артистично приключение, което води до основаването на експерименталния техно лайв акт LESNIK с Калин Байчев SuB (Porno BPM). Двамата редовно разцъкват софийската нощна сцена, изявявайки се на различни събития - ФАЗА, радиопредаването Subfactor и др.

През 2021 г., пандемичната му душа най-накрая се излива в първия му албум озаглавен „Remind Me Tomorrow“, и издаден за лейбъла Mahorka.

Именно там музикалният път на KANZ може да се усети най-добре – криволичещ по ембиънт и дъб техно калдъръми, пресичащ IDM мостове, отправен към генеративната музика и психеделична електроника. Там човек се впуска дълбоко. Без необходимост от напомняне.

Take a trip to planet [-M-E-L-M-A-K-]! And the local carrier to take you on a dreamy, spacey but yet mellow groovy flight is known as “Charter Murphy”. Since he started creating music the 4/4 format was already too limiting for him. “He is always striving to slip-in between two steps of the sequencer…” as his fellow Melmakian “ddx” said once. Since his early teenage years Murphy was producing music on his personal computer. He was also part of the Kyustendil based organization “Collapse DJs” responsible for the biggest techno parties in town.
Later, for more than 10 years, he was dedicated to working in the social sphere with homeless young people so he didn't have much time to continue his hobby, but now he has also been reactivated by the Melmakian space signals and this with aplomb.
