Exercise extreme caution around black cats or unfortunate circumstances may follow.

CONTEXT

A father and son were traveling on a moonless night when a black cat appeared on the side of the road. Aware of the superstition about a black cat crossing one’s path, they pelted the cat with rocks, forcing it to retreat into the home of a woman accused of being a witch.

The next day, the woman was limping and bruised, confirming that witches can turn into black cats at night.
