After an introductory trio of mutant rave 12”s in 2019, Aasthma return, galvanised with hi-EDM-pop sheen and stacked melodies for a more ambitious sound that draws as much from Peder Mannerfelt’s work on Fever Ray records as his and Pär Grindvik’s shapeshifting electronic tekkerz. In a strong sense ‘Arrival’ is effectively a new iteration of hi-tech Swedish dance-pop for the 2020s, summoning the spirits of UK hardcore rave and its trip hop offshoots thru a glossy production prism that winks at Eric Prydz, Avicii and Max Martin, while seamlessly kneading in aspects of footwork, industrial dancehall and hypeR&B-pop. Quite understandably it arrives on Modeselektor’s label, and shares much of the German duo’s thrust toward bigger sound staging, only less fruity and crisply rudely puckered.

Arrival

A power ambient ballad seething with unrequited, destructive desire, ‘C’mon Creeper’ is the first collaboration between Aasthma and Louisahhh.  
Shining somewhere on the more lush, emotional edges of IDM, the track is a knot fraying and tightening in on itself.  

Equal parts metallic-future and ripe, feral feeling, sticky and slick, visceral flesh and flickering machines, this sonic triumph melding the touch of Aasthma and Louisahhh - each artist reknown in their own right - delivers something unique and uncanny. 

Accessing a place unexpected but subtly spectacular nonetheless, the dichotomy of Aasthma’s high fidelity genre-defying glee and Louisahhh’s ferocious confessional, rhetorical after rhetorical flung into an abyss of pure, pulsating sound will no doubt give the listener something to feel: a knot in the throat or a punch in the gut.  

This is as it should be.

Second instalment of Mecanica Records compilation focused to obscure techno/EBM/electro. A selection of new and unreleased tracks by six projects from different latitudes. The opening track is a collaboration between Dmitry Distant (Latvia) and Gestalt (Russia) with a dark electro tune that works perfect as warm-up. Deep Pill (USA) offers a versatile technoid tune and Blac Kolor (Germany) closes the A side with a hard and hypnotic piece. Viktor Kalima (Finland) opens the B side with a body music attack, followed by Santiago (USA) with four minutes of pure psychosis and dementia, and Rendered, the duo formed by Daniel Myer (Germany) and Clément Perez (France), closes this sonic trip with a strong and massive cut that will leave you attached to a never ending loop in your head.
Limited edition of 350 copies on black vinyl with transparent Priplak jacket.
