A Decade Departed

The second and third day of the Battle for Palentheros. Verdell and his undefeated paladins hold the gate the first day with the aid of archers and the elemental forest people of Edan. Through the night men are restless and eager to continue the fight. When the morning comes Samos's army does not advance apart from one giant armor clad knight who walks through the parting crowd of soldiers. He is known as Galo the Demon. The demon who has now completely taken over the boys body carries the sword of the sky god, Adinxuna, and with it all its powers. He begins to run, increasing speed as he nears the city walls. Forty feet from the paladins wall of shields, he leaps into the air covering a large distance. He lands just before the wall thrusting his sword into the ground. The ground forms into molten spikes erupting from underneath the paladins. The explosion in the center of the holy knights is so hot it vaporizes the men in their armor. The scene is horrifying; many of the knights are impaled on the large earth spikes. Verdell who was at the rear of the wall stands with his eyes wide and mouth open. Galo pulls his sword from the ground and walks up to Verdell, his strides are long and he covers the distance between them quickly. With one quick slash of the god sword, Verdell is cut in two. His body falls to the ground in a pool of blood. Galo raises his sword pointing to the heart of the city and shouts "Kill them all!"
