The first audio phrase is from harsh square wave morse code audio tones.  The second audio phrase is taking this same harsh morse code audio - but this time,  just using it  - to key a 2nd software CPO -  using an - AUDIO TO MIDI - free software application -  that converts the incoming morse code audio tones,  into a MIDI NOTE OUT, with the exact timing as the original cw element, and sends that MIDI MESSAGE to the MIDI INPUT of a software Code Practice Oscillator called Bipper.   Bipper then sends the exact same cw element length at the pitch designated by the AUDIO to MIDI application.

A simple square wave generator is used, LM3909, and uses AUDIO to MIDI technique to recreate the cw audio tone.  This audio file starts by sending cq 3 times without the AUDIO to MIDI system and then followed by 3 cq's with the AUDIO to MIDI system engaged, so you can hear how effective using the AUDIO to MIDI technique is at creating a great morse code practice oscillator on you computer. Using Mumble( open source skype like voip program )and FLdigi to communicate morse code over the internet.  LIVE RECORDING from 2009. [ Missouri to Michigan internet path ] 

SETUP:  using a virtual audio cable, we connect the output of FLDIGI to the input of MUMBLE.  We both connect to a MUMBLE SERVER and instead of using MICROPHONES, we send morse code audio tones at high quality, high fidelity, and low latency, to each other.  The audio is FULL DUPLEX and allows for good QSK response during the conversation for breaking in.

QRQ CW - morse code qso over the internet -  K8IF & AA0HW

NINJAM,uses ogg vorgis compression to send audio over the internet.  You can hear what morse code audio tones sound like natively before a CW REGENERATION METHOD is used, via Reagate/Reasynth/and the Apple 12-Pole Filter plugins. To regenerate the incoming cw, the incoming ogg vorbis audio is converted to a MIDI NOTE OUT message(note 77 @ 700 hertz) by Reagate VST PLUGIN, and this midi note message goes out to re-key a separate sine wave synth called Reasynth.  Reasynth then feeds its output audio to a final bandpass filter plugin for final polishing of the new cw note's audio, and is a near perfect copy of the original note, but without the noise and hash.  This regen process also gets rid of the sharp audio spikes causing the pops (you hear at first) thanks to Reaper's Reagate VST plugin.

CW REGENERATION DEMO on the iCW Interface

A qsk qrq cw performance test for the Elecraft K3S from 100 wpm to 60 wpm....K3S set to FULL QSK,  qrq cw mode enabled 

RESULTS:  at 100 wpm several of the dits were way too short causing harsh audio pops...all  the dits on this test can vary between 3-6 milliseconds in length...there is also quite a bit of first dit shorting by almost half...  however, by only listening, from 90 to 60 , the variance in element length is not really a big deal... only when you analyse it closely does the K3S's eratic element timing come to light

QSK RECEIVER AUDIO is only between words at 100, 90, 80 and 70 wpm...only at the 60 wpm test does the receiver qsk'd audio appear between characters.

This was a test - sending a steady stream of morse code DITS, at 25 words per minute to determine how steady in timing, the dit length, and dit spacing would be when using a MORSE CODE SOFTWARE KEYER.  As you may be able to hear, this dit stream is NOT steady at all when using any windows sound engine such as WDM-KS or even WASAPI.   Therefore, an ASIO SOUND CARD with its own ASIO DRIVER is highly recommended when sending morse code with an iambic paddle hooked to the computer's serial port when using a software keyer.

SENDING A MORSE CODE DIT STREAM AT 25 WPM USING WINDOWS NATIVE AUDIO ENGINE

This was a test to see how much more stable sending morse code with a software cw keyer would be when using an ASIO SOUND CARD with its own ASIO DRIVER. A dit stream was sent at 25 words per minute and recorded. As you can hear, the dits are very steady in length and spacing. This is NOT the case when using windows own audio engines - as a previous recording has proven: Chaseology – Sending-a-morse-code-dit
Therefore when using a software cw keyer on your computer, you will have superior performance by using an ASIO DRIVER instead of any of the windows audio engines.

SENDING A MORSE CODE DIT STREAM AT 25 WPM USING AN ASIO DRIVER

This recording if from a test of using an ASIO driver vs using a WINDOWS AUDIO driver when sending morse code on your computer with a software cw keyer program.
The ASIO driver is the first part this recording, and then the windows audio driver is the last part of the recording.  It is very apparent how poor windows audio drivers are at sending morse code with any precision.   The ASIO DRIVER however produces a very steady and precise morse code audio tones.  Using an ASIO DRIVER is therefore highly recommended, not only do you create very precise morse code audio tones,  you do so in near zero latency, which is necessary for monitoring your own sidetone when using an iambic paddle to send morse code on your computer with a software cw keyer.

This is a test to sweep an audio frequency through the HI-PER-MITE cw bandpass filter from 300 hertz to 1200 hertz with a 700 hertz center frequency constructed with the zero db gain option.

This is an audio example of how well the HI-PER-MITE cw bandpass filter cleans up a very rough and harsh square wave morse code sidetone generated by the k1el, k40 cw keyer.
The first part of the file is how the sidetone normally sounds without any filtering, the second half of the file is same k40 sidetone being filtered by the HI-PER-MITE.  The HI-PER-MITE does and excellent job of filtering out all the square wave harmonics and smoothing out the edges from zero rise time to @5 to 6 milliseconds RISE/FALL time. 

HI-PER-MITE CW BANDPASS FILTER - FILTERING A HARSH SQUARE WAVE CW SIDETONE

FLdigi is sending three different cw characters at three different cw pitches; 400 hertz, 700 hertz, and 1000 hertz at equal volume.  The HI-PER-MITE filter is used in the second half of the file as a narrow active bandpass filter centered at 700 hertz and does a great job of reducing (@-30db) the other two cw signals of 400 hertz and 1000 hertz.  This test was setup to closely represent a typical nearby interfering signal(s) that you might hear when on the air with other cw signals that are nearby your own frequency.  The HI-PER-MITE proves itself very useful to be able to successfully filter out the other signals and still be able to continue on with your own qso.
