Moxie NTS Radio Show Archive - Part 1

Almost six years after their first collaborative release, Robert Johnson Club’s resident, as well as one of the label’s mainstays, Phillip Lauer teams up again with Slow Motion Records’ label head Fabrizio Mammarella as Black Spuma. On behalf of their fifth release to date, Lauer and Mammarella set their studios controls up for a Hypercall into an Italo sonic past and their futuristic sounds.

From A1 Station to Station, Lauer and Mammarella get into business right away, as the first handful of sequences unfold their crafty Italo House fireworks. Laser beams and stretched sounds meet bass Arpeggios as, after the first breakdown, a piano riff slowly unfilters amidst portamento pads.
A steady Tambourine and beat kick off A2 Transpork, in which the main theme consists of a shiny and arpeggiated sawtooth chord progression, layered with a laid-back melody laid on top and and some reverb FX at the end.
B1 Miracoli relies on a bouncy bassline along a flat-out Eighties Kick Drum, alternating and squelchy synth figure. Drum rolls fast-forward you into a miraculously driving, yet slightly melodramatic Italo sound set with guitar-riff- and mangled vocal samples.
At the end of this EP, B2 Data Life enters sonic space on a magic synth carpet ride, propelled by a booming 808 Bass Drum, Rim Shots, and Bells, with Black Spuma encoding their Data into a modulated metallic-sounding Arpeggio.

Butyrum opens with warm, mysterious tones and hypnotic rhythms — a gentle invitation into the groove. Oxytocin follows with playful energy, driven by vibrant synths and crisp percussion. Things take a darker turn with Zodiac, where eerie atmospheres and rising tension build toward a groove made for the later hours. Closing the journey, Styx dives into raw, dubby soundscapes, balancing melancholy with subtle hope. A deep, analog-rooted debut that sets the tone for Junjo’s future projects.

We are delighted to present this special pair of tracks from Spanish producer and DJ Kiko Navarro on glorious 12″ vinyl, providing a glimpse of his much anticipated forthcoming album ‘Everything Happens For A Reason’.

Opening track ‘Twilight’ will need no introduction for crate diggers and 80’s club kids. A complete remaking of the Maze classic, Kiko’s version raises the tempo into deep house territory, retaining the dreamy, sensual feel of Frankie Beverly’s original.
Providing a sumptuous taste of the old-school, Kiko’s own acid-laden, energetic dub version of ‘Twilight’ is sure to wreak havoc on the dance-floor, with perhaps a little hint of good old fashioned euphoria as it reaches it’s synth string-filled climax.
On the B-Side ‘Cranc’ provides a raw, analogue, Detroit-esque synth jam, building an intense groove with an insistent, wrong-footing bassline underpinning dizzying arpeggios, jazzy stabs and warm chords.

This record is the eleventh one (nine produced under Modern House Quintet, two produced under the Cyclades moniker). The artwork is little bit different this time, maybe prettier in a way. Photos were kindly provided by Tranzistoraki (from Chora, Amorgos), one of the loveliest place to eat in the Greek Cyclades. About the music, the A side song will probably please the vibraphone's heads, where as the B1 track has a more "deep and low-fi" atmosphere. The B2 one was meant to be more ethereal and soothing with its delicate pads and arpeggio.
