In addition to some of my favorite old records and samples, this mix features several brand new bassnectar tracks, heaps of exclusive edits, re-edits, and re-re-re-edits. Lot’s of re. Lot’s of mix. Lot’s of edits. We tore our favorite drum &amp; bass to shreds, injected hip hop with some pogo-stick bass, amped up the tempo of dubstep, freaked out the gypsies, gave a nod to the dreamy 80’s and ended up similar to where we started off: omni-tempo maximalism strikes again.

This time with musical and lyrical support from label head Alpha Steppa and long time UK Roots vocal duo Reality SoulJahs, respectively. A heavy steppers riddim from Don Fe featuring the conscious militant lyrics of Reality SoulJahs accompanied by an earth-shattering Alpha Steppa version and dub mixes from both camps. Mastered with maximum clarity and bass pressure and housed in the brand new reverse-board 300gsm Steppas Records house-bag.

The Reality duo initiated their musical kinship in 1990 with the launch of their Reality Sound System. From the early days of lifting boxes and recording dubplates, this North London duo have gone on to forge a powerful relationship and have established themselves as intelligent and instantly recognisable vocal and lyrical talents. An integral part of today's UK roots reggae scene.

UK born musician and producer based in Spain for over 20 years, Don Fe’s passion since the age of five has been music, classically trained in piano, flute and theory and as from sixteen reggae. From his humble beginnings in the 80s with a 4 track and a TDK D90 his riddims and productions are now being played by the world’s most respected sounds – Channel One, Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Iration Steppas and many more all over the world.

'The spirit of dub continues to drive all the music I make,’ says Brian May a.k.a. Beam Up. ‘This album takes those dubwise qualities of rhythm, space and bass, to shape a series of tracks that could be tagged as a variety of genres.’ 
Dedicated to the great Osborne ‘King Tubby’ Ruddock, ‘…for repeatedly showing there are no rules’, Innerstand builds on that great legacy in its presentation of a truly contemporary, outernational dub experience.
Abetting Brian May are a diverse trio of vocalists, each of whom brings unique qualities to the project: Terrence Alfonso Bowry, a UK-born Canadian national whose experience has mostly been gained on Shanghai’s jazz and blues scene (where he worked alongside artists of the calibre of Wynton Marsalis) brings an ear for sophisticated harmony and improvisation; Jornick Joelick, a French-Guyanan rastaman with a big voice bringing an earthy, rootsical quality; and Katya Tasheva, a polyglot singer with what May calls ‘sublime frequencies’ whose background spans traditional (including world-music mavericks and former Beam Up compadres Rotfront) , pop and drum- and- bass. 
The album is a musical journey that of course references King Tubby’s Kingston, Ja. and Rhythm and Sound’s Berlin, but also the Balkans, Japan and Australasia (and more); as well as Pablo, Glen Brown  and The Skatalites, influences such as Prince suffuse the set, which sometimes takes on the feel of a version excursion, as May’s riddims nod to the classics of the past, subliminal echoes of the great dub tradition, though it’s more usually in the form of ‘inspiration’ than carefully worked out covers.  The Wire mag has already called this ‘timeless top-grade dub’ on the basis of a sneak preview, and we think that just about sums it up…
