I am a coffee pervert in a way that I'm well too versed and refined to enjoy the instant coffee but I do. It is almost a very different chemical to proper coffee serving for different functions in biochemistry of some people.

With massive thanks to Tom, the custodian of the Derek Files, we can, at long last, wade back into the weird, wonderful, and worrying world of Uncle Derek, the master storyteller behind The Brookside Tiger, The Bone Hoover and Irish Jimmy! For this obviously momentous occasion, we are joined by Tat Lord and all round “lovely chap” Stuart Ashen to absorb more of that red hot Derek action. It’s an episode packed with young love, tragic death, family pranks, olde timey motor cars, UFOs, exploding foxes and much, much more. The only question is, can you take this level of awesomeness and imagination?

Ep 278: Derek: The Final Chapter

It’s a packed podcast this week as Paul and Eli dive into a range of unusual books and even weirder novelty records! In “Paul’s Page Turners” the gents briefly judge a book by its cover, absorb the wit of 50-year-old toilet graffiti and find out why coffins once had to have armed bodyguards! Sadly, Paul finds room to add a new character. Eli remains unimpressed. Later in the show, “Silverman’s Platter” unearths a strange old 7-inch record recorded by proud Bristolians from the 1970s. There is also the strange case of a rare promotional book and record that not only gives us an odd adventure with Captain Birdseye, but also a collection of frozen food themed shanties. Expect some really bad singing and bloody awful CheapShow tainted shanties. Sadly, Paul finds room to add another new character. Eli is impressed. Eventually!

Ep 280: Nasty Shanties

The Quest Master returns! In yet another thrilling “walkabout” episode, Paul and Eli go exploring the woods of North London and take on 4 cheap challenges. It’s an adventure so big/drawn out, that it had to be split into two episodes! The journey begins in High Barnet and takes the cheap chaps on an escapade that goes off the rails before it begins. It also doesn’t help that they quickly get lost and must back track to return to the trail. It’s an episode packed with cheeky dogs, arguments, indecent proposals, a chocka hungry goblin, a nappy obsessed knight, a few painful accidents and an “Off Brand/Brand Off” that could be a lot more difficult than it first seems. To make things spicier, there’s real cash on the table for Eli to win, so The Quest Master has made the challenges a little more difficult as a result, which please Paul greatly. Will Eli reign victorious? Will Paul injure himself? Will they even figure out where they are going? Listening to this podcast will reveal all!

Ep 281: Gannon's Second Golden Quest Part One

After getting lost in the woods for two episodes, Paul and Eli are back doing what they do best. Whatever that is! Long time contributor Ivenne has sent the cheap chaps a box of goodies from Norway (and Sweden) and it’s packed with sauces, tat and candy. Eli doesn’t need an excuse to talk sauce, so he is rather excited about the Lee Kum Kee Cooking Sauce collection as well as the lemon grass siracha and Vietnamese soy sauce. Paul? He isn’t excited at all. Things improve when its time for a European Price of Shite, with items obtained from Norwegian charity shops. For Paul, he is most excited by the folk cassette that Eli promptly ruins with his improvised, horrific lyrics. Things don’t improve when a few new characters turn up, each one more pointless and volatile than the last. Put the kettle on, grab a hot drink and get cozy, it’s CheapShow time!

Ep 283: Norwegian Goods

We hope you’re thirsty this week, because Paul and Eli are going to be diving into a tiny treasure trove of fizzy drinks… Sadly, that means they’re going to get a visit from the Soda Jerk Master himself, Juicy Jeremy. He’s back with a collection of soft drinks to taste and test. There is even one drink from his jalopy that the cheap chaps have been desperately trying to get their hands on for a while, but will it live up to expectations? However, Juicy Jeremy hasn’t come alone as, unbeknownst to him, there is a certain animal fancying candy man who has a few treats of his own to offer. All this AND Paul’s got a shocking royal confession to get off his chest, it’s a proper fizzy and frothy episode!

Ep 284: Juicy Jubilee

It’s all fun and games until things get “too real” for Paul and Eli this week. What begins as a simple party game soon turns into a sober and devastatingly reflective experience. It’s a Gannon’s Golden Game from hell and no one gets out with their dignity intact. Think of it like a body swap film but with none of the hi-jinks and joy. Luckily, the rest of the show isn’t as awkward. It’s time to take a trip to the past as Paul pulls out another excuse to talk about “Look-In” magazines when he happens upon an annual celebrating the best of the 1970s pop culture landscape. Ep 286: This Is Who's Life?

Every now and then, an episode of CheapShow comes along that is “nice” and “lovely”. This is one of those rare episodes where Paul and Eli aren’t at each other’s throats (too much)! It’s time to jump into another listener sent PO Box treat this week and the Cheap Chap are overwhelmed by the goodies that are revealed. Luckily, it’s not all flowers and sunbeams, as Paul (typically) finds a way to make something Eli is enjoying, unenjoyable. Whether it’s creating a naughty limerick or crafting another convoluted score system, Gannon’s out to be a proper annoyance. Eli is spoilt rotten by the box’s contents, Paul, however, just wants to spoil it. From Butt Detective toys to Godzilla gadgets, this episode is heaving with knick-knacks – maybe too many for Eli’s heart to take!

Ep 287: Infinite Knick Knacks

It’s time, once again dear listener, to tackle some more cheap instant noodles, but this week, Paul and Eli may have literally bitten off more than they can chew. They’re tasked with trying to eat a dangerously spicy noodle that warns them of the danger, but the cheap chaps forge ahead… and promptly regret their decision. How spicy can it possibly be? They’re going to find out the hard way. Elsewhere in the episode, it’s time for a new Paul’s Page Turner segment and Gannon is desperate to give it its own proper jingle. Even if that means stealing a bunch of old ones no one is using any more. Finally, Eli finds more joy in a treat Paul’s discovered on the floor. For real. It makes for some serious ejaculations of joy. Which is troubling!

Ep 288: Bite The Wax Tadpole

It’s a scorching hot day so Paul and Eli decide to skip recording the podcast and take themselves out into the wild to get up to some mischief. In the great tradition of mucking about in the woods, the cheap chaps are trying to recapture those naughty adventures from their youth. They plan to smoke ciggies, drink cheap booze, look for a place to call their “den” and, of course, search for a pile of disregarded porn mags. As with most walkabout episodes, things don’t go according to plan. Along the way they get lost in a cemetery, take abuse from little old ladies, reminisce halcyon days, make toxic cocktails, have a meltdown in Tescos, dangle from trees and make an utter show of themselves. If Paul and Eli thought last week’s woodland adventure was hot, then this week is going to be a very unpleasant surprise!
